Blatter is mouthing off as well - something about "there is another club that is claiming the player is an amateur and not under contract"
Fiorontina don't have a case at least from initial reports. The guy wasn't under contract, under 18 can't have a contract in Italy - so he couldn't have been induced to breaking any contract. As such we can't be punished for anything.
Can be condemned for not doing the morally right thing but, they can't charge us for that incident. Maybe they'll look to add laws to prevent more kids leaving their home towns before they are 18, giving chances to the clubs that do invest in them a way to make that money back if that player doesn't choose to stay with them.
But, United at this time don't have anything to worry about. In Chelsea's case - the guy had a contract he broke.

Seems Le Havre and Fiorentina are just incredibly bitter and are wanting large amounts of compensation from Utd, but don't seem to actually have any legal grounding other than the questionable morals of this poaching. The morals are questionable, I agree with that, but it's legal and that's all that matters in this situation.
However I hope that this debacle does lead to a ban on the international transfers of players under 18. It may be legally correct but it's certainly lacking in morals. If not a ban then there must be a system whereby the selling club gets a suitable amount of compensation money to go some way to repaying the effort it put into developing the player. If clubs keep being fleeced of their promising young players for paltry amounts of cash (if any cash is even given) then they're just going to give up and not bother with their academies anymore, all because of the greed of the more wealthy clubs.

I fear that it could only be a matter of time before we get a similar punishment. Just a feeling I have.
Maybe FIFA should re-open our case against Real last season. Oh, thats right, they're not an English side. Granted, its not the same reason, but its the same concept

I can't remember who said it but I heard someone on the BBC say the other day that lots of teams do this but the English clubs are under the most scrutiny for this because the Premier League is the best league in the world. If the Serie A or La Liga was dominating the Chapmions League than UEFA and FIFA would be putting bans/pressure on their clubs. FIFA is making a statement here and think that the best way to do it is to slap a punishment on a big English club, now that is done with I doubt that they will go haywire and continue to dish out suspensions. So in the end I expect United will be safe.

It's great news, I always knew Le Havre and Fiorentina were full of shit in their legal claims, however I still think this whole business of using legal loopholes to snap up foreign kids as soon as they turn 16 is morally dubious at best. Not only is it unfair to the club that has put time, effort and money into that player but it also takes away chances from local lads. That's not intended as a xenophobic comment but I feel that this club's youth system has really failed since the days of Beckham, Giggs, Neville etc.. and rather than develop football here at the "grass roots" level, we're letting clubs on the continent do the hard work before we snap them up for a pittance. It's something I really disagree with.
