The only sure way to lose weight is a sufficient caloric deficit, it's not rocket science. Cumulative at about 3500 calories/week or, alternatively, 500 cal a day cut off from your base recommended intake. Combine it with cardio and a smaller deficit, a larger deficit, or simply the deficit on its own. Rejoined the gym a month ago to get fit/into good shape again - pretty content with the cardio stuff & rowing etc as opposed to massive bulk, more-so because of the activities I enjoy doing, whch require more endurance fitness than brute strength. Yup - definitely the best way but the diabetes is a problem - eating is getting bloody complicated I'm back on the slimfast with soya milk instead of cows - I could happily have 4 of those a day and restrict myself to about 1000 calories but the sugar content is fucking horrific

Have you tried low-impact cardio at all? Some rowing, x-trainers, air-squats, yoga? Whenever I get bad twinges in my back, I fractured a vertebrae about 10 years ago, that's my go to cardio, with some Battle Rope circuits built in too. It's worth speaking to a Personal Trainer or regular gym goer to see if there's anything they suggest.
Also, try knocking slim-fast on the head, as you say the sugar content is mental, and sugar is where your weight gain mostly comes from. Try stuff like grilled salmon, a baked potato and salad for your tea some nights, and chicken, green beans and sweet potato other nights. Stuff like steak is really good too. I'm sure you know all this, like, so sorry if this comes across as condescending.

A quick question for the peeps who do Protein shakes;
I've been advised to get on the Diet Whey stuff, as a way to help lose fat, by my PT, so sounds like good advice. Only question is, what quantities should I be using, and what do I mix it with? I'm guessing water, but also think I could use milk?
Also, where's the best place to buy it?

Started doing push ups every morning and night sometime last year and forced myself to stick with it religiously. Missed maybe four nights in about nine/ten months (staying other people's houses, for example). At first I'm not exaggerating getting to twenty in one go wasn't happening. I can remember staggering it to forty each morning and evening. Original goal was to be able to do 250 over the course of the day (minimum requirement for RN fitness test which I figure is a good barometre for fitness). Been upping it ever since and I'm now doing: Morning - Fifty, fifty; Forty, forty; Thirty, thirty; Twenty, twenty; Ten, ten; and Evening - Fifty, fifty; Forty, forty, forty; Thirty, thirty, thirty; Twenty, twenty; Ten, ten; Ten close hands. Only reason I short myself in the mornings is having to get into work. I'd get up earlier but I don't get to sleep for hours at night so ... Getting some genuine definition on my arms and chest for the first time in my life and feel amazing for it. It's gradually giving me abs as well. My next goal is 750 for the day. Easiest thing I have ever done to work out. It's habitual for me now, it's free, it requires no equipment. I live for push ups now.

Myprotein.com do a good diet whey. Don't get double chocolate though. It's horrible. I mix them with milk. Water makes it too bland for me. For quantities, follow the instructions. I also use my protein's creatine which is really good and CLA diet pills which are working well. I'm currently on Syntha 6 protein. Vanilla flavour from discount supplements. Best tasting I've ever had. Gorgeous. Tastes like milkyway.

I go through Bodybuilding.com, super cheap. I use Gold Standard 100% Whey and mix in Amino Acid. The amino acids help open blood vessels and maximize protein intake. Isopure protein is not a bad low cal whey either and you can get it carb free if your trying to lose weight. Not a fan of synthetic carbohydrate, I think it makes you fat.

It tastes rotten with water generally so you can use skimmed milk.

How not to do the gym WARNING; Horrible video! Only watch if you are near a toilet! This gave me the willies. Genuinely the worst thing I've seen in ages as I'm a big fan of the leg press. Not any more!

How not to do the gym WARNING; Horrible video! Only watch if you are near a toilet! Takes a lot to get my stomach going but this managed it. When I first watched it I didn't exactly know what to expect but this is just off the head. Poor girl but then it did amuse me when she just "ow ow ow" although I'm sure there were a few choice words that followed.

And that's why you should always skip leg day! Never skip leg day! I hate every second of leg day though. Anyone who enjoys squatting can fuck off

A tip for anyone wondering, the 'Sour Apple' flavour Creatine is exactly as disgusting as you would expect. To the point where chugging it one go isn't an option so. Just decided to skip the Creatine this month, not buy any and have a small cleanse and just stick with the whey.
