We can't make this work without a new assman. IMO.

He's quality, without a doubt, but we haven't seen the best from him, mainly beacause we don't seem to know where to play him / play to his streghts. I reckon he would be best suited in 4231/4321 as Paul said - just behind the striker or left, where he played for Japan. It's obvious he isn't suited for CM in 442.
My front four, with creativity, speed and interchanging positions would be:
Nani - Rooney - Kagawa -------------RVP--------------

Early days lads, Fergie will get it right and Kaggles will adapt. Faith.

Yup, early days and he'll settle in soon hopefully. I just hope he doesn't go down Berba' s way.. A brilliant player but just didn't fit in our setup. We are traditionally a 442 team, but Shinji is the best in different formations. We'll need to adapt or we'll be pushing a square peg through a round hole again.

Defo early days, people going mad on Twatter and FB jesus give the lad a break like. Rome wasn't fucking built in a day. Most of the people commenting are fucking armchair fans anyway (not aimed at anyone from here, I mean the keyboard warriors on the social networks).
When he turns good, and he will, theyll soon be up his arse using him as a japhat.

it may well be early days but I seem to remember a brilliant midfielder that we spend shit loads on and couldn't get the best out of him.... Veron. Still- before anyone attempts to rip my head off, I have full faith with Kaggles

We just play to our strengths at the moment, which are RVP and Rooney.
I think the signing of Lewandowski in the summer is aimed at having he and Kagawa as a plan B, because he's a big part of how Kagawa worked at Dortmund.
Welbeck needs to step up his game if anyone. A 1 goal return so far this season is very poor form.

A 1 goal return so far this season is very poor form. lewandowski aint coming. we've got four good strikers. if rooney and van Persie are our first choice then Hernandez is our plan B. i still think 50% of united supporters don't understand how good he is. we need to get him as much football as possible. he's as clinical a striker in the box as you'll see. look at one of his goals over the christmas period, just split second reactions, he's such a dangerous player and his work outside the box is improving as well. top player welbeck will have his work cut out to get minutes and he needs to work on aspects of his game but he's a good player.

did anyone have the same impression that kagawa yesterdays ability and speed was a step ahead of his mind.... he was doing things a bit too fast (which sometimes is what you want) but a few bad choices because where he had a second or the possibility to take a touch and look up when he didn't?

Every player needs games to improve, especially when it comes to form. I agree with Jim that Hernandez is our plan B - which we are currently using due to Rooney's injury, and the resurgence of Hernandez's lethal form has been a bonus which has saved our arses a lot this season.
I think everyone would agree that Kagawa was meant to be part of our plan A before his injury. In fact, early in the season where we tried to play a 4-3-3 or 4-3-2-1 of sorts, that was meant to be our original plan A but it fell apart. I really think it boils down to whether the Gaffer understands who he has purchased and how he utilises him, or we might end up just seeing another Veron, Park or Berbatov playing out of their natural position, or playing out of their natural niche.
Most of us in the forum know what Kagawa strengths are, and our best Football-Manager-esque formation to fit our "top 11". But at the moment, it seems that our coaches don't know how to make any other tactic other than 4-4-2 work at the moment. In this circumstance, Kagawa might arguably not reach his top of his game with us. Luckily, because Kagawa looks quite versatile, maybe he can adapt to suit to our game.
Will we continue to try to make a new formation work, or stick to 4-4-2 which has served us quite well so far? Really depends. The best would be able to adopt a 4-3-2-1 / 4-2-3-1 formation, and use it when appropriate - instead of just going 4-4-2 all the time. That way we build two teams and rest specific players when we switch formation.
Early days, of course. Easier to just sit, watch and criticise without thinking why.
