We need a defence and we need it quickly. We crumbled against MK Dons and could have done the same in the first 20 against Burnley. After yesterday its clear Evans is struggling in a back three and no one looks assertive. Too much is made of forwards and No.7/11. We lost the heart and soul of a great defence and they have not been replaced properly. I am pleased to see this morning that Hayward of the Daily Telegraph has also publicly criticised our defensive set up. LVG needs to get to grips with the defence ASAP, it's no good waiting three months when we could already have slipped too far to recover.

I totally agree with you mate for two reasons, defensivley we looked soo weak in the first four games of the season the defense is running around like headless chickens and its only by luck that we kept a clean sheet against burnley yesterday, while blackete looks like he can do a job defensively in the future both him and johny evans showed they can not pass a ball in any direction, also darren fletcher is totally out of his dept with passing,I love fletcher and I love that he is the vice captain its great the club has stood by him after his illness but unfortunately he has not regained the same level he once had.
I think dailey blind is gonna slot into the position fletcher played yesterday he is a great passer of the ball, assuming rojo gets his work permit or criminal record problems sorted he is gonna fill blackets position in defence so I think one more strong cb is needed then we need them to gel together, If we get Rafael bqck and keep him fit and get Shaw fit I cant see any reason why we wouldnt be strong with a back four of rafael, jones, rojo and shaw. Just my opinion

Evans has played two games in a back three. How can you make a judgment on whther he can adapt in that system or not?

Evans has played two games in a back three. How can you make a judgment on whther he can adapt in that system or not? Easily. His first attempt in this system was actually against LA Galaxy and in the first 20 made loads of errors. He hasn't got the poise or the capability to play this system without being alongside a leader like Rio and Vidic, and we don't have the time to wait any longer. That's the predicament we're in and it all comes down to time. I feel for the lad but his confidence is close to being shot and in three defenders there isn't the time or space to gather support from one of the others if he makes an error. He needs to build his confidence but Jones and Smalling are not inspirational players. Hence why I think we need a least on great CB and another good one.

Just my opinion Agree with much of what you say but two many 'ifs'. If work permits, if fitness and if blending all work. We can't work with 'ifs' because the time question is working against us. We need a group of players to blend and the only answer is safety in numbers and quality.

When rebuilding a team like the manager is doing now they is always going to be too many ifs thats what football is about, yhh we dont have time for ifs but we also need to realise that this is a totally different team and it has potential, if I was to be critical of one thing lvg has done it would be insisting on the 352 formation while still blending new players into the team, I do believe it will work out in long run but again it does work out will united be too far behind to catch up fir even a top four place??

You lot do realize that LvG is Dutch right? He comes from a football culture that is built around possession, slick passing and movement, and flair. Don't forget that this is the only side in the world to have the ball in the net without the opposition touching it, and on the biggest stage in world football nonetheless. The Dutch have built club and international sides around players like Jevans at the back for decades. Defence is the least of our worries.

you cannot make this shit up. Your prose and syntax is so .... laudable. I apologise profusely. Unfortunately, I had not been made aware, until now, that there was a standard of English to be achieved when posting. I incorrectly thought the content of the post outweighed the grammar and use of vocabulary (not prose but, you probably know better). So, thank you for clarifying the matter and, going forward, I shall attempt to be both more verbose and grammatically correct. I trust this meets your needs. Or not; I don't give a shit.

Is "more verbose" supposed to be a joke or is that just a happy coincidence?

Saying you don't think he's good enough belies the idea you're giving him a chance. I think most people are deciding he isn't good enough by looking at his name as he isn't a 'superstar' defender. I could be wrong but I don't think many followed him that closely in Portugal nor with the national side of Argentina.
