Could be a big season for Lingard if he's kept at the club as opposed to loaned out, either way he'd be a decent enough PL experiment for someone this season.

Jessie is an excellent prospect, a bit on the slight side, but very quick with excellent balance, can find an alley for his strikes and passes. I hope LvG plays as many youngsters as possible every damn week, because the time they spend with the veteran players that will be on the pitch will really be of great benefit to them and the club. Hell, here I go again ....................

TOUR 2015 NEWSVIDEO 16/07/2015 23:11, Report by Adam Marshall SCHWEINSTEIGER MAKING THE RIGHT IMPRESSION There are certain signings who stir the senses of every supporter and World Cup-winner Bastian Schweinsteiger undoubtedly fits into this category.
The midfield titan is an exciting acquisition for the club and has already made a positive impression, speaking fluent English and clearly relishing the chance to challenge for trophies with the Reds. "I can't guarantee titles but I can guarantee we'll give our best to be successful," he promised. Of the four summer recruits, the German is by far the most decorated and experienced, carrying genuine gravitas that commands instant respect. As Louis van Gaal has already remarked, Morgan Schneiderlin may have the advantage of being used to the Barclays Premier League after making his name with Southampton. Memphis Depay is a prodigious young talent and Matteo Darmian shone at the last World Cup. Each one should make a major contribution in 2015/16 and beyond but Schweinsteiger's switch has created the biggest stir. In all honesty, it will be like playing a computer game when we see his name in the line-up for the first time, potentially in the opening International Champions Cup clash with Club America this weekend. There will be a surreal feeling when the fact that a Bayern Munich stalwart has moved from one of the world's biggest clubs to another becomes reality. Schweinsteiger can dominate the midfield, as he has done for both club and country over the years, and is capable of displaying the sort of leadership that was so admired in Bryan Robson and Roy Keane. There have been times when this key quality appeared to be lacking in the wake of the departure of some inspirational characters (Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra, Ryan Giggs to name but four), particularly in skipper Wayne Rooney's absence, but there should be no fears on this count with the new signing in the side. Furthermore, when he says it's a "big honour" to be at United, you know he means it. The story of his brother supporting the Reds was long documented during Sir Alex Ferguson's time at the helm. An admirer of Eric Cantona in the Frenchman's pomp, he also made a beeline for Paul Scholes at the Legends game at the Allianz Arena last year in order to get his shirt. The Bayern favourite has always had a soft spot for England's most successful club. With van Gaal in charge, a reunion with the Dutch coach has enabled the 30-year-old to realise an ambition that has clearly been in the back of his mind. "I'm happy to be here because we know each other," he stressed, when asked about his relationship with the manager. "But I am here for Manchester United because Manchester United is a big club and I am looking forward to playing in that great stadium [at Old Trafford]." His next goal at the Theatre of Dreams will be much better received than his equaliser for Bayern in the Champions League tie back in 2014. That Schweinsteiger understands van Gaal's philosophy and is well versed in his methods should outweigh the fact the midfield general has yet to play in the Premier League. For all the boss's confidence in expecting to see his new man adapt, it is simply another ambition for the player to achieve. Even somebody who has won the biggest prize in the game, the World Cup with Germany last summer, acknowledges he needs to answer any doubts about his suitability for the English top flight. "To play in the best league in the world is a great challenge for me," he conceded. "I want to give my impact in a positive way." The fans have few worries on this score. There is an appreciation that a bona-fide world star has arrived at the club and has the potential to become just as popular here as he was at Bayern, whose supporters referred to him as 'Fußballgott' (Football God). Schweinsteiger already has great respect for the United faithful and the feeling is likely to be mutual. Some observers of social media have noted the frenzied reaction to our confirmation that a deal had been agreed with Bayern last weekend. The total of retweets and favourites of the Twitter post exceeded 100,000. To put that into context, when Chelsea clinched the title against Crystal Palace, the figure for the two responses to their official tweet was close to 57,000. It tells us nothing we don't already know. There is great excitement to see Bastian Schweinsteiger performing in the red shirt and that could well happen for the first time in the early hours of Saturday morning UK time, at CenturyLink Field in Seattle. www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2015/News-and-Features/2015/Jul/bastian-schweinsteiger-making-the-right-impression.aspx

Very nice training facilities indeed That is a great article and pretty much emphasizes for me that while another back and a striker would be most nice, I just cannot see this team as it stands in "absolute/desperate" need of signing anyone in particular. Which will make Ed's job a great deal easier, and I think that it has put him in the drivers seat in negotiations The whole window was beautifully done, top players, who all WANTED to be at United, now can follow with the players who want to be here but clubs have been pain in the ass. We cannot go into the new season with the same crop of CBs as last year. We won't as I think Otamendi is a done deal but if we did we would be asking for trouble. Leaving aside questions of ability, none of them can stay fit.

Ran into a Chelsea fan while food shopping with my UTD hat on. He said, "UTD fan", I said yes, you? No, he said, "Chelsea fan". I told him I was praying for his soul. Funny he could recite every player we brought in this year, afraid? I think Yes.

FOUR NEW SIGNINGS SHINE AGAINST CLUB AMERICA
Manchester United’s four new signings, Memphis Depay, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Bastian Schweinsteiger, all completed 45 minutes during the Reds’ 1-0 win over Club America – all of them impressing on their first outing for the club.
Schneiderlin's looping header after five minutes was the only goal of a testing first game in the US, but the attacking intent of Memphis, the forward forays of full-back Darmian and the cool-as-you-like midfield mastery of Schweinsteiger also caught the eye. Memphis, Darmian and Schneiderlin all started the first half, while 11 changes at the break saw the introduction of World Cup-winner Schweinsteiger. Second-half captain, Chris Smalling, said of the new signings: “I thought they were brilliant. They clicked like they’ve been here for a while. It’s promising for the new season.” He reserved special praise for Schweinsteiger, who operated just in front of Smalling in a midfield holding role. “It’s brilliant to know he’s there in front of the back four,” he told MUTV. “He sucks players in and then plays the pass at exactly the right moment.” But match-winner Morgan can rightly claim the headlines as he got Tour 2015, presented by Aon, off to a winning start. He told MUTV: “It’s good to start with a win. The first game is about doing what the manager wants from us. We did our best and we can correct a few things but it’s our first game. We want to get better and be ready for the Premier League. “We worked a lot yesterday on set-pieces and I was told to get to the far post. I was happy to get the ball and it was a great cross from Mata. I am very happy to score on my first game for United. But the main thing is to get fitness in the first game back in pre-season.” Ashley Young took to Twitter after the game to congratulate his new team-mates, saying: “Good to be back out there playing again. Well done to the boys on debut, nice goal [Morgan Schneiderlin] to seal the win!” www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Jul/New-signings-Schneiderlin-Depay-Darmian-Schweinsteiger-impress-vs-Club-America.aspx

18/07/2015 07:20, Report by Mark Froggatt in Seattle VAN GAAL'S VERDICT ON VICTORY OVER CLUB AMERICA Manchester United secured a deserved 1-0 victory over Club America on Thursday evening in the first match of Tour 2015, presented by Aon, and in Louis van Gaal's post-match press conference the boss had plenty to say about his team's performance in Seattle...
On United's display against Club America: "It is our first 45-minute game. I wanted to see our defensive organisation and that was the main aspect. We didn't give a goal away, only one or two chances, so I am satisfied about that. We played like a team and [Club] America was very handy with the ball, all of the players were very aggressive and quick, so it was not so easy. All of my players have done the function of what they have to do in our philosophy, so I am happy and satisfied. We have won so in the tournament we are still in the race." On Morgan Schneiderlin's headed winner: "He scored with Southampton, I believe five goals, so it is not a coincidence but we have practised this with him so I was very pleased with the performance. It is also a fact that America don’t have many good headers so we knew in advance that our benefit was there. Like I have said in the Premier League, it is not our benefit as we are always small.” On the players who did not feature: “David De Gea and Antonio Valencia were injured, minor injuries, but we cannot take any risks. Marouane Fellaini is suspended for the first three [Premier League] matches so he has a longer time to prepare himself and I need to see other players. Sean Goss was not selected because I have selected other players.” On the playing surface at CenturyLink Field: “The pitch was difficult. Also, the first surface [underneath] is artificial and the grass is always moving. You saw a lot of players slipped. You can get more injuries, which is a concern. But also last season against Real Madrid we played in such circumstances. That is the difference in the US with American football stadiums, it is more important. In England we have Old Trafford and it is only for football. It is not for entertaining. There is no One Direction. In England we live for football but in USA they live for American football and baseball.” On his plans for the three remaining tour matches: “We use this tournament for our match rhythm, to build it up. So we play the next match against San Jose and we will also play 45 minutes for all of the players. That is our philosophy and then we will play 60 minutes and 30 minutes. Maybe in the last match we will play for 90 minutes, or use another team to play for 60 minutes. That I don’t know. I have to read the data of the players. But our plan is to play the next game with 22 players.” On Daley Blind becoming a long-term centre-back: “It could be. Marcos Rojo is not here. He shall also come on 25 July. I want to play always with a left-footed central defender and Blind can do the job. Maybe he shall play there but all the players can play there. Last year it was Jones and Smalling, and even McNair has played there. But my preference is a left-footed defender and with Rojo and Blind we have two.” www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2015/News-and-Features/2015/Jul/Louis-van-Gaal-reacts-to-United-victory-over-Club-America.aspx

Someone tell Van Gaal a centre back doesn't need to be left bloody footed. Who plays Blind in there just because he has a left peg. It's just weird.

TOUR 2015 NEWS8/07/2015 06:58, Report by Mark Froggatt in Seattle
VAN GAAL ADMITS CHICHARITO COULD HAVE A ROLE TO PLAY AT UNITED IN 2015/16 Louis van Gaal admits Javier Hernandez will have the opportunity to prove himself and regain his place in the Manchester United squad when the Mexican joins the tour on 25 July.
Chicharito, who has scored 59 goals in 154 Reds appearances, was sent on loan to Real Madrid at the beginning of last season after van Gaal decided the player would sit behind Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao in his pecking order of strikers at the club. Hernandez has now completed his temporary stint at the Bernabeu and will soon link up with United, when the tour moves on to San Jose. Speaking after the 1-0 win over Club America in Seattle, van Gaal was asked about Chicha’s chances of impressing and catching his eye. “Chicharito is coming on 25 July,” the boss explained during his press conference. “Okay he can prove himself again and now Falcao and van Persie are gone, so his chances are better now.” At present, Rooney and James Wilson are the only recognised strikers in the United squad after van Persie left for Fenerbahce and loan signing Falcao moved on to Barclays Premier League rivals Chelsea. Asked if he is worried about a possible lack of depth up front, the manager was quick to praise his options. "No, as still we have Rooney - he can play in the strikers’ position. All the media last year wrote he has to play there and I listen to the media! And we have Chicharito, and maybe Wilson, and maybe there comes a surprise. You never know, it is a process. I am not worried about that position.” The boss was also quizzed on Falcao’s move to Stamford Bridge, which promoted a positive response: “I wish him all the best because he was a fantastic professional player but he came from an injury period. "We have made him very fit. I like him very much as a person and also as a football player. Now he tries his luck at Chelsea and I wish him all the best.” www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2015/News-and-Features/2015/Jul/Louis-van-Gaal-admits-Javier-Hernandez-could-have-a-role-at-United.as

When Carrick went out and we were shy of options Rooney played in the middle. Hardly our best area. We added two mobile CMs to shield the back 4 before we had none.

Hopefully this is what hes talking about when he says 2 new signings. We supposedly have 1 of the best (Otamendi) begging to come here so that should be a no brainer. The other should be a youngish (22-24) striker, but has experience like Lacazette. I hope its not the likes of Gaitan and Cillessen, who we probably dont really need at this time.
