It's good to see that 6 years of Sven have not been wasted. He has managed to achieve a level of consistency not witnessed for centuries. The second half illustrated every problem that we have had for the last six years and he managed to replicate every single one of them.
First half - half decent. Jo Cole would be better if he had a brain slightly better than a millipede and it would have been nice if Fat Frank and Gerrard had known what they were doing - but not bad
Second Half - Had it not been for the back four and they dropped a few goolies, we'd have been well beaten. Midfield didn't exist; Downing a complete waste of space; Crouch was the only one who did anything at all and he was so isolated it was all wasted. So much for " we're completely prepared". They didn't have a clue

Certainly an inspiring performance. England = 1 goalkeeper and 10 water carriers

Fooking ref just topped it off, a mixture of negative tactics, lack of shape and piss poor decisions made that a pretty boring finish to the game. Also whats with tha tstupid TV screen which got in the way of Robbo's goal kick

I have to say the ref was certaintly favouring the Paraguay side and that Beckham should be credited with the goal, especially considering Crouch got his vs. Jamaica.
I'm happy with the 3 points and I wasn't expecting a top performance because England always seem to start off slow in tournaments and don't normally win the first game. The points are all that matters in the group stages, Beckham, Joe Cole & Crouch were England's best players tonight and it was good to keep a clean sheet.
What pissed me off was John Terry constantly got the defence in trouble but there was nothing said by the commentators, when Rio misplaced a pass the commentators were all over it. That's what pisses me off and that's why people say JT is better than Rio. Rio is the best defender in the world for me and he makes defending looks so easy while JT makes it look hard.

The referee was a disgrace as we all could see it, not just the England fans but surely the natural too. We didn’t play to our full potential, but when do we ever? We got the three points as stated, that’s all that matters. And I’m sure there’d be a lot more moaning had we of lost. So chins up, crack a beer and roll on the next match.

That's more like it boys, I was pissed off at the Sport's Café because everyone was so negative, but the result was positive and so was the first 55mins. We never ever start off well...so it was great to get off with a win.

First half was all roses, 2nd half was boring and we weren't great but as everyone is saying we got the points and thats what counts.

Not a bad a performance, and I just hope that the more laid back pace in the second half was just playing it safe and not because they couldn't create anything..

Alrite mate, I was thinking that too..and thought they were chilling because of the heat and the fatigue levels they would of got had they ran riot for a full 90. BTW, who you supporting in the World Cup, USA or England?

Awful display in the 2nd half. There's not a single player I can praise in the final 45 minutes. It would be nice if "super" Stevie could get a shot on goal within 5 yards of the posts or crossbar. Too much too ask?

I thought the second half performance was shocking and against a semi-decent team we would hve been ripped aprt. If Rooney had been there though I think it would have been a different game completely so can't wait for him to get fit.
Also I was very impressed with Becks and am so happy that he's back on form. Englna dlook like they can't buy a goal without him.

If England had played poorly in the first half and well in the second half, would the fans be so critical?...People in England are quick to jump and say England will win the World Cup, and are too quick to jump and say England won't win the World Cup. We have a great chance one of five/six teams who do. England won their first game and that's excellent, especially considering T&T drew meaning one more win will qualify us. If England beat Croatia one-nil, I doubt there will be people saying ''Brazil won't win the World Cup!''...

Going to the pub and seeing the energy and passion of the England supporters made it much more appealing than the lack of enthusiasm that often went along with supporting the US national side, though it's changing now.
