Billy Bob Thornton plays a farmer who builds a rocket to send himself into orbit, but it's a serious film. Honestly...
The film revolves around the main character Charlie Farmer (Billy bob Thornton), a discharged astronaut (engineer) who never made it into space after being discharged when his father committed suicide, because the bank foreclosed on his land.
Billy bob has spent the rest of his life raising his family on his farm in the local town whilst engineering a space craft but now faces similar problems to his father. $600,000 in debt, and the thought of losing his family and farm are just some of the obstacles stopping him from achieving his childhood dream.
When he tries to purchase 10,000 gallons of rocket fuel the government get suspicious, they try everything to stop him launching including treating him as a terror suspect and threatening to shoot down his craft if he prepares to launch.
The film is great, it's not a comedy but it has some great laughs, and has a great message. Everyone when they are kids has a dream and a belief they can be anything they want, somewhere along the line they lose that dream, and when they do they try and mock other for chasing their dreams. The film acts as a great FUCK YOU to everyone who ever tells you, you can't dare to dream.
Loved it.
