I thought this movie was really, good. Though the ending was really sad. What was your take on it, i know it might be perceived differently in the UK, than it would in America.

Being Northern Irish we're pretty much steeped from a young age into all the good old IRA/IRB british government stuff from either/both sides, it's not always intentional but it's there. Before watching this film I knew all the history, the rebellion, the war, the black and tans, was taught it from a very young age.
But I must say I liked this film, it was very even handed it wasn't all one side and neither the IRA side or the british government/the liberated irish govenment were free from sin in this film and thats the way it should be portrayed. All the sides in the conflict are as bad as each other only perhaps in different ways.
Cillian Murphy gets some flack from several quarters from being wooden and one dimensional, and knowing the type of person he was portraying and the kind of character that entails I can tell you he was good and he was very convincing. All in all this is a good bordering on great film and deserved the Palme D'or it won.
