I've been listening to this almost non stop the past few days...
Some of it's gold and some of it not so much, but what is sure is that he's definitely the hottest property in rap music at the moment.
I went to see Kanye West last year in Dublin and Lupe supported. After seeing him there and hearing him on Kanye's "Touch the Sky" I got his first album, Food and Liqour, which was very good. It wasn't massively hard hitting, but had some really standout tracks, most of which dwarfed it's single "Kick Push".
The best track by far though was one called The Cool, which tracked the life of a fictional character back through his life, coming out of his grave, retracing his footsteps as he walked back to the scene of his death, and then doing it all again. The wordplay and flow in the track was top class.
This continues to a startling degree on his new album of the same name. It's standout track for me so far is one called "The Coolest" which has some of the greatest use of metaphor and wordplay I've seen since Nas' illmatic. Seriously, give it a listen yourselves, but Fiasco seems to have an absolutely unique grasp of language, structure, and wordlplay. It all flows beautifully, and his actual technique when it comes to delivery is fluid and fast paced.
Really, check him out, he's something different to much of the trash that plagues the hip hop and rap world.
Try The Coolest, Superstar, Dumb it Down and Put You on Game for some individual tracks.
