French long-jumper Salim Sdiri was taken to hospital on Friday night after being speared by a javelin in a freak accident at the Golden League meeting in Rome. Sdiri, who claimed bronze in the European Indoor Championships in Birmingham earlier this year, was standing in the warm-up area when disaster struck. Finnish javelin thrower Tero Pitkamaki was about to release the spear when he lost his footing, sending the missile left of the landing area where it collided with Sdiri. The Frenchman was struck on the right side of his ribcage, luckily suffering no internal damage and just a 3cm wound. Both the long jump and javelin competitions continued despite the incident, which overshadowed a sparkling night of action. Asafa Powell was the star performer, cruising to a seemingly effortless victory in the 100m, dipping below the 10-second mark with a time of 9.90. It said the guy was ok. This happened at my school this year too, somebody threw a javelin and it bounced off the ground and as the girl ran out to measure it, the javelin impaled her leg.

I saw the video and lolled my cock off. I felt bad for the javelin thrower, as it was a monster of a throw.
