Switzerland's Iouri Podladtchikov and Norway's Kjersti Buaas won the second half-pipe contest in the NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup 2007/2008 held in excellent conditions in Saas-Fee (SUI) last Friday. Podladtchikov took the lead already in the qualification and showed the best run of the day in the second final round with a FS 1080 and a Cap 1080 manoeuvres. It was the career-first victory for the Russian-Swiss dual citizen, who also claimed the lead in the FIS World Cup half-pipe ranking. On the ladies’ side, Kjersti Buaas celebrated her first World Cup victory in more than five years. With a clean run, she left Chen Xu of China and the reigning World Champion Manuela Laura Pesko (SUI) behind. Pesko, who won the World Cup opening event in Cardrona (NZE) in August, maintained her yellow leader's jersey.
The semi-finals and finals on Friday were preceded by the qualification on Thursday, and a FIS European Cup half-pipe earlier in the week. "It was really great being in Saas Fee all week. Our sincere thanks go to the Organizing Committee that delivered truly first-class conditions for the competitions by shaping two pipes in the same spot. It made it very easy for us to organize training and competition for the over 150 EC riders and 100 WC riders," commented Marcel Looze, FIS Race Director for Snowboard.
The NOKIA Snowboard FIS World Cup will continue with a big air event in Stockholm (SWE) on Saturday, 17th November, 2007. _________________________________________________ Ski Jumping – attraction for millions of spectators and a spectacular sport! I love some winter sports, Especially Biathlon.

Austrian World Cup slalom champion Marlies Schild produced a storming display in blizzard conditions to win the first women's race of the season in the discipline in Reiteralm.
Racing in her home region of Styria, Schild was third after the opening run but leapt to the top of the podium with a battling second leg, during which she nearly skied out in the middle section.
Last year's overall World Cup champion Nicole Hosp completed another strong showing for the Austrian women's team, taking second place 0.06 seconds behind Schild.
Surprise first run leader Chiara Costazza of Italy dropped back to third place, a further 0.24 seconds back, to record her best finish on the World Cup circuit.

Unheralded Swiss Marc Gini grabbed a surprise maiden World Cup win after coolly wrapping up the Reiteralm slalom.
More StoriesSchild wins home slalom Gini, who turned 23 three days ago, had never finished higher than ninth on the World Cup circuit but strung together two gutsy runs to set a combined winning time of one minute 53.49 seconds.
Experienced Finn Kalle Pallander, seven years Gini's senior, came in second, 0.28 seconds behind the Swiss. Italy's Manfred Moelgg was third, a further 0.22 seconds back.
Gini set the fastest time of a first run dogged by falling snow and poor visibility and showed no sign of nerves during a second run carried out in only slightly better conditions.
"I wasn't at all nervous but I don't know why," Gini told Austrian television after celebrating his victory with a comical frog-like dance in the finish area.
"I just switched off and came down the hill. The snow conditions didn't put me off at all."
The race was moved to Austria due to a lack of snow in the Finnish resort of Levi.
There was little for the home fans to cheer with the Austrian men's team missing out on the podium for the second time in this season's two races so far.
Slalom world champion Mario Matt was the best placed Austrian athlete, finishing 0.65 seconds behind Gini to take fifth place.
Team mate and former overall World Cup champion Benjamin Raich came in seventh, 0.86 seconds off the pace.
Last year's overall champion Aksel Lund Svindal of Norway had to settle for 13th place, trailing Gini by 1.83 seconds.
American former champion Bode Miller managed to finish the second leg, a feat he achieved only twice in slalom last season, but was a distant 26th.
Palander's second place, coupled with his third place finish two weeks ago in the season-opening giant slalom race in Soelden, means he takes the lead in the overall standings, 20 points ahead of Svindal.
"It's a total surprise," Palander said. "Especially as I haven't made the podium in slalom for about two years now and the slope here was a lot flatter than the hills I usually do well on.
"To do this well at the start of the season and even be leading the standings is really satisfying," said the Finn whose concentration on the technical disciplines all but rules him out of any shot at the overall title.
"Perhaps I should race the next downhill in Lake Louise to defend my lead," he joked.

A round-up of all this weekend's action as Yu-Na Kim of South Korea and the United States' Johnny Weir skated to victory at the Cup of China - the third of six events in the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating series.
More StoriesAll the Alpine news from Reiteralm In women's free skating, Kim put in a winning performance to the music of musical "Miss Saigon" in the final competition in Harbin in China's northeastern province of Heilongjiang.
"This was my first competition of the season and I am not yet so pleased with my presentation. I will work a lot on my presentation for my next competition," the 17-year-old said.
Caroline Zhang of the United States took the silver and the bronze went to Italy's Carolina Kostner.
The competition concluded with men's free skating, with Weir claiming the gold medal and teammate Evan Lysacek coming in second. Stephane Lambiel of Switzerland took bronze.
"I was very excited with my performance today," said 23-year-old Weir, who is three-time US champion.
"It is the first time in a long time that I felt really comfortable on the ice and I think it's due to a new training regimen and just harder work in general."
Meanwhile, 2006 Olympic silver medalists Tanith Belbin and Benjamin Agosto of the US overtook overnight leaders Oksana Domnina and Maxim Shabalin of Russia to capture the Ice Dancing gold.
Federica Faiella and Massimo Scali of Italy took bronze.
Dancing to music of Frederic Chopin, Belbin and Agosto successfully completed difficult lifts, intricate steps and a dance spin to claim their second International Skating Union Grand Prix gold medal this season.
Meanwhile, Canada's Jeremy Wotherspoon set a world record in the men's 500m as the speed skating World Cup opened in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The 31-year-old was clocked at 34.03 seconds, beating the previous mark of 34.25 set by Korea's Lee Kang-seok in March.
Wotherspoon, a four-time world sprint champion who took last season off following a disappointing Olympics, then collected two more victories on the final day of the meeting. He won the second 500m in 34.14 and took the 1000m in 1:07.03.
It was a good meeting for the Europeans with victories for Pekka Koskela (Finland - 1000m), Erben Wennemars (Netherlands - 1500m) and Enrico Fabris (Italy - 5000m) on the men's side and Jenny Wolf (Germany - 500m), Chiara Simionato (Italy - 1000m) and Martina Sablikova (Czech Rep - 3000m).
China's Beixing Wang was the other multiple winner, claiming the 500m and 1000m on day one, while Canada's Christine Nesbitt added a further success for North America in the 1500m.
I love watching this guy skating so much elegant,i will miss Plushenko cos to me is the best(i hope to see him in Canada)
Well done to Fabbris. ;D
