Manchester United have made an approach for David Silva of Valencia. The player’s agents were contacted by fax, yesterday, and informed of the Premiership club’s interest in the 22 year old Spanish international. United’s move for David Silva is timely: the player has been in talks with the new regime at the Mestalla over an improved contract offer, but negotiations have stalled, with both sides said to be some considerable distance apart in their respective bargaining positions. With talks rescheduled for later next week, the news that Silva has rejected Valencia’s latest offer has travelled fast and, in spite of Sir Alex Fergusons suggestion that United’s activities in the transfer market were over, it is clear that an opportunity to sign a player of the calibre of David Silva is too good to let pass for the current European Champions. United face competition from FC Barcelona who are also preparing a bid for Silva. The Catalans have been waiting in the wings to see how the situation at the Mestalla unfolds, and with Valencia said to be in urgent need of funds to pay off a sizeable instalment on their massive debts next month, Barcelona had been optimistic that a bid approaching €25 million would be enough to secure the extremely talented Spanish international. Silva’s prospective suitors were given further hope yesterday: with David Villa’s agent suggesting that it was increasingly likely that Valencia’s other most valuable asset would remain, it would appear that it is David Silva who will be sacrificed in order to bring some much needed cash to the financially trouble club. ------------------------------ www.guillembalague.com/rumores_desp.php?id=51Make of that what you will. How he would know about it, I don't know. Maybe he's friends with the agent in question, one of his 'contacts' if you will. Personally, I'd love him to sign. However with our lack of transfer movement so far, and the obvious need of a striker before another winger/midfielder, I can't see this being true. Or even if it is true of our interest, I still can't see that materialising into a concrete transfer bid.

I think he generally knows what he's talking about that Guillem guy, but this one I can't really see. I think he'd be a very good signing for us but we need a striker more and it doesn't look like we'll buy two players this season.

Funny how we are interested in him just as contract negotiations stall.Classic agent bullshit IMO.He seems a bit lightweight for the prem. The news that Villa is staying put does give the article some legs as Valencia need to sort their debt out but I think Barca or RM (if they flog Robinho to the chavs) will be more interested.

We are linked with him this morning heavily, but i put that down to agents making mischief, i really doubt we would sign Silva for 20+ million, a year after spending 17 million on Nani, and lets face it! Who would he put out of position, Nani/Ronaldo, dont think that would happen!
All we need is a striker, no need for midfielders, defenders or keepers. If anything else appears in the papers then its bullshit!

Apparently Valencia rejected a bid from United, but it goes on to close that he would only want to go to Barca or Real and not United, hmmmm anybody else think that the agent is using United as a means to get Barca or Real to put in abid for him? And by throwing Uniteds name in there he can say look United made a bid, but he doesnt want to go, he wants to go to A or B!

Guy knows dick all!

I'd take him but not for anything over £20m, same goes with Berbatov.
Both would be quality signings, would prefer Silva to be honest. Although Huntelaar still tops the list for me.
