I hate war movies and I hate the whole topic of the war in Iraq so this is a movie I would normally not go anywhere near, but you guys seemed to love it so I might take a look.

I liked this film. It was pretty good, think they could have done more with it though. Best war film ever: Enemy at the Gate.

Best war film ever: Enemy at the Gate. mmm, depends what constitues 'war film'. actual action style war film? id go with either Apocalypse now or platoon. however overall id easily go for Schindlers list. is that a war film? perhaps, perhaps not. but that was one of those films that come around once in a lifetime that capture the nazi regime perfectly. you just watch and think 'wow'. it left a mark on me that film. excellent.

Apocalypse Now was an amazing film. As far as Schindlers List, i have never seen it. I know I will check it out though.

I liked this film. Was very touching. Wasn't your usual war blood and guts film it had a lot of meaning and showed how solider's dealt with putting there lives at risk every day. Was gutted when the young lad that played football, and sold dvd's on the stall was kilt. But again it was true too the life and culture of people living over in the middle east.
Was worthy of an Oscar in my eye's.

Peejay, you should check out a russian movie called "Come and See" A few years back Empire did a top 500 movies of all time thing. I'd heard of most of them but this was really high on the list so I dug it up from Amazon. It's about the Nazi's in Belarussia in WW2 and follows a young boy who joins up with Soviet guerillas after his family have been massacred. It is really the most incredible movie, deeply harrowing but totally engrossing from start to finish. Similar I suppose to Defiance but about 100 times better. It's called Russia's Apocalyplse Now (which is one of my favourite movies) for good reason. Well worth checking out if you can find it.

Same here, thought Schindler's List was brilliant. Really made you think because they portrayed it so well.

I can't remember the last time I felt so depressed after watching a movie.. Schindler's list is probably the most intense and elaborate depiction of the Nazi regime..
Life is Beautiful, I thought was excellent aswell.. Though not as poignant as Schindler's list, it has it's own harrowing moments and captured the essence as effectively..

Yep, but the dialogue is pretty minimal. Visually it does most of the work. Honestly, it's incredible.
