The importance of physical attributes namely height & pace are being over emphasized these days.. Yeah you cannot be a midget and hope to be a center half but as PJ said, nothing beats reading of the game and positioning..

sometimes tall centrebacks are donkies. You mean Carragher or am I insulting the donkeys ?

Did anyone see the Cardiff game today? If so, how did Drinkwater do?
I'm going watching the extended highlights of the game at 7 anyway.

Few quote on a Cadiff City forum on Drinkwater:
"looked good today, will be a season long loan player that can actually play, composed, nice touches, tidy passes, some decent little runs, high hopes for the boy"
"He has potential, hopefully he gets a bit more confident as he had quite a few opportunities to have a shot today but opted to pass out wide instead."
"Looks decent. Does the simple stuff well. Good addition to the squad"
"Thought he looked good today, he's got a hell of an engine on him, didnt stop chasing the ball but he's a bit lightweight. Also agree that with abit more confidence he may well of taken a shot on instead of passing today."
"I liked the look at him, busy, pacy, good touch and always looking to do a decent pass. He's just what our midfield has been missing since O'Neill left us."
Very encouraging signs from them views.

Three of the loanees in action tonight in the Carling Cup.
Matty James - Preston James scored Preston's second goal of the game in a 5-0 win over Stockport. "The central midfielder has pulled it past the defender and volleyed it past the keeper with his left foot from inside the area" He also won the penalty for the 3rd goal, "James nut-megs Stockport centre half who then brings him down for the penalty." " From what I've read he had a very fine game. "Matty James looks a different class in the middle"
Joshua King - Preston King only came on for the last 20 minutes but made an instant impact by setting up Preston's fourth goal and scoring the 5th. "King has run 60 yds taking on everyone in his way with his electric pace before setting up Hayes who tucked away from 6 yds" " King grabs his first goal. The youngster has run onto an Andy Lonergan goal kick which was missed by the Stockport defence and curled a nice shot past the Stockport keeper."
James Chester - Carlisle He played the full game in Carlisle's 1-0 loss to Huddersfield. Some good and bad points I found about him, "Harte and Chester have marshalled Garner and Rhodes pretty well so far", "James Chester is beaten to the ball by Pilkington 35 yards out and the Huddersfield midfielder takes a touch before hammering a superb shot onto the crossbar". Its good to see Chester has played 90 minutes 2 games in a row now, the first team football experience is vital.

Great news. Any idea if there are highlights on anytime soon? Keep an eye on ssn, they have showed the goals from a few of the games so far, no sign of the preston game yet though.

Glad to see all the lads making some sort of an impression at there respected clubs.
I hope they keep it up.
Isn't King only on loan till November ? A good loan spell for him could see him being called upto the first team in January.

No problem 11times. Yeah I'm a fan of King's also, its good to see him doing well. I'd be very surprised if he doesnt start at the weekend after tonights showing. @ericator - yeah the loan is till the end of november but this will be more than likely extended to the end of the season. Btw Matty James has over 60% of the vote for MoM tonight on a preston forum with over 100 voters.

Yeah more likely he will extend the loan, that's unless we don't have a major defensive crisis ! Touch wood !

I like Matty James, only 19 and if he can be Prestons top 1-3 players over the season that's very, very promising.

I remember seeing Matty James for the first time in some extended highlights from MUTV of the reserve team game where Macheda scored a hattrick (the game that lead to Macheda's inclusion against Villa in the 2008-09 season), and he was spraying balls all over the park almost Scholes-like. Hopefully he can have a similar impact in the championship as Cleverley did last season and come into the first team next season.

Cleverley being described as "Beckhamesque" and now Mattys "Scholes-like." It seems that the Ole and the rest of SAF's training staff have done a fantastic job with getting the youngsters ready. I even remember someone saying Gibson having a good game against Airtricity, ok, against a poor team like them, but nonetheless a relatively good performance. Even Valencia scoring with his left-foot was a bonus for us.
