Just a dumb publicity stunt. Conor knows better than anyone that the more his name is in the media, the more money he makes. If he did retire now, he will always be known as the man who ran from Nate instead of giving him his rematch, and the man who never defended his title. He's too much of an arrogant prick to do that. Nate replied to the tweet saying he was retiring as well, which is also obviously bollocks.

It's legit. Dana white has removed him from UFC 200 . His friend died in the ring some days back it would seem. Influenced the decision.

Might have been a game of chicken. He was apparently asking for the highest amount for 1 fight. Or maybe just genuinly sick of it and wanted one last pay day. He'll be forgotten soon.

Yeah, it seems like there is something to it. From what I can gather, Conor has been shaken up badly by seeing his team mate kill someone during a fight, Dana White didn't want to give Conor any time off from promotional events and commercial shit, so Conor has given Dana a big fuck you and retired as it's the only way out of his contract. If that is really how things went I'm 100% on Conors side, and that's something I never thought I'd say.

There are also reports that it's because Conor didn't want to disrupt his training in Iceland to do press training days in Vegas, even though every other fighter has to do it. Conor threatened retirement thinking he would get his own way, Dana called his bluff and pulled him from 200. If that is the case, the fair play to Dana White, and Conor can get absolutely fucked.
It's difficult to know exactly what happened with so much speculation being thrown about, but one thing I'm sure of is that at least one of Dana White and Conor McGregor is an absolute cunt. Probably both.

Think we've got to wait before raising pitchforks. See it as it develops.

He's getting out while the getting is good and hiding behind excuses. 'The loss was definitely a fluke, but now I'm burned out and will never fight again.'? Crap. He's a fraud and always has been.

If the dude wants to retire, who cares?
Surely no one is forced to seek a huge legacy and if he's made his cash and would like to actually enjoy it as opposed to potentially getting beat to a pulp someday then why not?
Ronaldo v Ronaldo v Ronaldinho scenario, not everyone seeks to become Ali.
Provided some good spectacles that's for sure.
EDIT: If it's related to money then obviously people will judge but it's his not exactly anyone's business. Someone else will come along and replace him anyway.

It's really none of anyones business why he retired . We're all doing what we do for the money. His job comes with a mortality rate. If he decided it wasn't worth the money anymore , or if he decided he made enough money from the game, it's really only down to him . The sport will go on with or without him . Fuckin Jon Jones is back next week !

He should be training and letting his fighting do the talking instead of his mouth. After his loss ge probably wants that.

I don't think there's anything wrong with being cynical or critical. Conor has spent his whole career looking for attention and reactions, so it's hardly surprising that announcing his retirement in this manner will cause a backlash. That kind of thing comes with the territory when you present yourself in the way Conor does. I don't think anyone would begrudge him retiring because of the risk factor, but if it's because of money, or because he thought he should get special treatment, or because he's bottled a re-match with Nate, then he has left himself open to criticism.
