The only time i've ever been worried at a match was Sunderland away in 03. We parked about miles away from the stadium and walked in. There was a really bad atmosphere on the way to the stadium and we were getting pelted with fruit, potatoes, sticks, stones and abuse. When in the stadium about 30 minutes in to the first half it kicked off in the Sunderland main stand above the tunnel. Six Boro boxers were in that stand and started fighting, then suddenly it kicked off all over the stadium with groups fighting. At the final whistle the stewards opened the doors and we made our way out but the Sunderland fans were already heading in to the away end. The Police couldn't stop it, there was a police helicopter out, police from Northumbria and Cleveland and about 30 horse back bobbies. The bridge heading in to the city centre was closed off by hundreds fighting but luckily for us we were heading the opposite direction along the river. We ended up getting dragged in to a Boro minibus to get us back to the car as it was kicking off all over.
Newcastle are a different breed, they like to sing songs about Paedophilia and make reference to Boro fans shagging their kids. They are thick as fuck. I remember a match where the cartoon army were all stood up all game at the Riverside when they burst in to a full chorus of Stand Up If You Shag Your Kids........They were the only people stood up. It took about 5 minutes of constantly singing that song before it sunk in they were the only ones stood up. They are a horrible set of fans.

Fuck, I remember that 92 semi-final. That save was something else. That began my love of goalkeeping, the fact that a brilliant save can be better than a brillant goal. Also remember the Boro fans being rowdy, in a good way, which got the Stretty buzzing too.

A particular favourite memory of mine was watching UTD stick 6 past Bolton at Burnden Park in 1996. I was living in Bolton then and had a managed to get a ticket for the away end. I spent the first part of the day in the pub with 3 Bolton fans from work who I got a lift in to town with. Sitting in there surrounded by them and many other bolton fans listening to them telling me what Bolton were going to do to us later that day - yeah yeah Blah fucking bblah. I distinctly remember going to the bog in there and passing a calender on the wall with the words Munich written on that days date - pathetic! I left them at the ground and arranged to meet them up the road following the game. Fucking nearly pissed myself laughing when I saw that temporary scaffolding stand thing they had erected to get more sad fuckers in to watch there supposed triumph. Does anybody else remeber that thing? Fucking hilarious!
Beckham, Bruce, cole, Scholes 2 and Butt. I was in heaven when I got out to where we had arranged to meet I was expecting them to have gone and left me but they were there. They started moaning - "fucking lucky bastards 5 nil" they said. They had come out a few minutes before the final whistle and had missed Nicky Butt netting number 6. So of course I very sympathetically informed them of the final score (at the top of my voice and jumping up and down). Amazingly I still got the lift back but surprisingly no one wanted to go for more drinks following the game.
I loved every minute of that day and the next week at work with a permanent smile on my face. Great days!

My 1st game United game is without doubt my fondest memory, even though the passing of 30 odd years has made my recollection slightly vague . I had been pestering my father to take to a game for ages but my mother always flatly refused this United mad 8 year old the opportunity of attending a match with dad. So my dad being the kind of fella that he was took advantage of my mother being in hospital for a minor operation to take me to Bristol City down @ Ashton Gate,March 1979. We won to 2-1,I remember Gordon McQueen got one for us,my dad got hit with a cigarette lighter thrown into the United end when we got our 2nd . He couldn't tell my mum & what had happened,I remember letting the cat out of the bag a week or so later & my old man getting a right bollocking from my mother We had a decent team then & still never managed to get anywhere winning league, for those to young to remember it have a look @ the 1979 cup final on youtube, the game had everything,1st time I cried watching you United. Bailey & Coppell were my 1st United idols

My worst memory CL Final Rome Had to get the ticket off an internet agent, being as I was unlucky enough not to get one from the ballot! Cost £900 + £430 Flight Got to the stadium and to my horror 2 Barca fans had got hold of 2 United tickets at our end and sat next to me Result! I dunno, some how I have brain washed it from my memory POSITIVE seeing the 2 Barca fans next to me getting a little hot under the collar as thousands of mancs looked at them in disgust brave boys though! Serously, I loved every minute of the trip, just the shite result of course. To this day my wife has no idea how much I spent on that trip

Hi Traffordbrown, I watch as much football as I can. The EPL is regularly screened on TV here and I can watch heaps on the WWW. Unfortunalely, unless I win the Lotto, I'll not be attending the 2010 - 2011 FAYC. I am sure I will get to read almost every word written about the match. I may even get to watch some 'video' highlights. I am based on the east coast of Australia and therein lies the problem of getting to O.T.. My personal opinion, for what it is worth, is that these 'youth matches' allow our kids to shine and get some exposure, something which is almost a non event with the importation of players from around the world. In my youth I saw players such as Duncan Edwards, Eddie (Swivel hips) Coleman, Albert Scanlan, Bobby Charlton etc etc grow and blossom into great players, who stood up tall and were prepared to be counted because of their love for the game, not the money. Of course there were many more kids who blossomed, my point is simple, give youth a chance. I asked a question earlier about, a 'ballet dancing' United player. There were no takers on answering so here goes: The person I referred to 'practiced' ballet dancing to incease his leg strength and agility. He scored the fastest goal ever from a distance of 58 yards. I was not there, I wish I had been. Four (4) seconds after the halftime break, goalie off his line by a mile and wham, ALBERT QUIXALL dented the back of the onion bag. Most stop watches had the goal at 4 seconds, others at 3 seconds. Amazing!!!! Another 'record' not often mentoned or even compared with THAT Beckham goal. There again it could not really be compared, In the late 1950's the footballs were much much heavier than current footballs and got even heavier during wet weather. (Headed a wet 'casey' once and had a migraine for a week. ) United purchased Albert Quixall for a then record 45,000 pounds from Sheffield Wednesday after the Munich disaster. He was referred to by the press as "Golden Boy." I saw a similar goal scored by a United youngster against Pompey at Old Trafford. In goal for Portsmouth was Norman Uprichard (Courageous Irish International goalkeeper who sadly passed away in February this year.) He had NOT strayed off his line but the feosity of the shot from just on half way took the ball and Uprichar into the back of the net. The score, none other than the great Duncan Edwards. That one I did see with my Uncle & grandfather from a viewing position, opposite the players 'tunnel' mid terrance. There was deathly silence for a few seconds until the fans realised that it was a goal at the old scoreboard end. BTW, (By The Way) the Quixall goal I referred to earlier was against Bayern Munich in a friendly which United won 2 - 3. At some later stage I will recover some old newspaper cuttings about an incident where a German Football Reporter was instrumental in getting our Golden Boy sent off in a 'friendly match.' Oh if only I could put EVERYTHING down in words. A minor postscript, Chel$ki drew at home against Newcastle, Arsenal lost as did Liverpool. What a weekend, that is why I love this game so much! ;D Have a great day. ahh ! Splendid . I just hope I have half the fun and Joy you had so far . Agree that watching players grow up to dominate world football is unrivalled feeling . I dream of going to Utd reserves and youth matches but Id have to be retired to do that ! beautiful memories

Juve away circa 85? That was a bit tasty, we got shovelled into an uncovered section below Juves ultras, and spent the whole game dodging bottles, bricks and various flying razorblades, I was only young and utterly terrified:p
Sorry kids my memories only go back to 80!!

Many fond memories of sneaking over the barrier into the Stretty End as a kid..We got caught red handed on one occasion but the copper who caught us also used to be a history teacher at our local secondary school,,,he just gave us all clip around the ear and let us off the hook.. Just wouldn't happen in the world we live in today!!

Memories for me, winning the FA Cup in 1976-77 against Liverpool 2-1. What made that great is we stopped Liverpool winning the treble of League, FA Cup and European Cup. They only managed the League and European Cup. Then 22 years later we become the first club to win the treble. Sweet memories for me as an old man.

There's a book on kindle for any united fan who's interested in memories, also the book is very funny, it's written by a guy who grew up in Salford in the 1960's and it's all about his home life and united. It's called Manchester United's Role in My Troubled life by Peter Morris, it was less than a quid when I read it this year on holiday. My girlfriend got fed of me laughing out loud by the swimming pool!!
