Hang on , William Goldman didn't write the Sting! Still one an Oscar though. I checked a few of the negative reviews. Here is what Time said about the script:
"If there ever was much of a script, it can be said to have gone to waste."
And the Oscar for best script in 1974 goes to......The Sting.

I like Anderson a lot but I boycott Jason Schwartzman Jay. So I haven't seen a few of his movies. Is he in this one? Unfortunately for you Stew, he is I don't mind him tbh, after seeing Natalie Portman half naked in Hotel Chevalier it broke the ice for me with Schwartzman. Super awkward actor though. Ps. If you haven't seen Hotel Chevalier check it out, 15 minute short film available on the net. Entirely funded by Anderson and serves as a prologue to Schwartzman's character in The Darjeeling Limited.

Totally agree. @ tatty - Really? I thought the whole thing seemed disjointed and haphazard. There were a bunch of things that I didn't really understand why they happened or what relevance they had to the progression of the film. Fassbender was good, in fairness, but some of the stuff the character did just confused me. Was it billed as [SPOILER: An Alien prequel?], or did that just happen at the end? Also, was it supposed to be a horror? I didn't find it that scary or atmospheric. It's a Sci-Fi movie, and was never billed as a horror. Also, I remember Scott saying that Prometheus wasn't/isn't a direct prequel to the first Alien film, merely just filling in the gaps before the first film. The thing in that film that bugged me was the technology was more advanced than the original 3 films which are all set 50 years+ in the future... The not scary thing wasn't a criticism, I just wasn't sure if it was supposed to be. Alien obviously was, so I didn't know, especially as there were some 'jumpy' moments. I heard Scott had dismissed the idea that it wasn't a direct sequel, but having seen it I'd say it is definitely a prequel!

"Sigh" Takes all sorts I guess but I just don't know how anyone could watch that film and find negatives. Everything about it is top rate; the casting, the acting, the script, the flow of the movie, the ending. Sod it, I might watch it again this weekend!

I know exactly what Rotten Tomatoes is.. 90% is a good score normally but it not for a movie as good as The Sting, particularly when Moonrise Kingdom, MI4 and Coriolanus are all currently ranked higher. Which is a complete nonsense. Ah, my bad. From your post I thought you might have confused it with the Razzies or something. And I wouldn't get too worked up on the ratings - people who tend to vote on such things would be of a younger generation, so newer movies will always start off really favourably. In time they'll go down.

I thought Coriloanus was a pile of horse well garabage to be fair, The sting ive not seen so cant really argue its case, might get it and watch it in work, but then ive never took Rotten Tomatoes into consideration anyway, always found it shite for ratings.

So a film ranking 3.5 stars from everyone for example would rank higher than an awesome film that a handful of people didnt like in their reviews.

Exactly. So, 18 out of 20 Journos liked The Sting for example. My issue is the two clowns who gave it a negative review!

I find IMDB quite accurate for rating. I think the best movies are the ones rated the worst by IMDB. Have you watched 'Manos- The Hands of Fate?'
