The new Ant Man really isn't very good, it seems the Marvel well has run dry.
And, no spoilers, but the first 40 minutes it was just clear that a Disney executive had said "Hey, Marvel makes loads of money, and Star Wars makes loads of money; so imagine how much money a Star Wars Marvel movie would make!"

You're too kind. A friend of mine, avid marvel fan, said it is an unadulterated piece of shit. Which did not surprise me at all. The entire fucking movie looks like its CGI. I like CGI in films mind you, but this is an abomination.

Brendan Fraser gives an astonishing performance in the Whale. The movie itself is astonishingly ordinary.

Got gifted(?) a ticket to watch Ant Man.
They could use quite a few of the latest slew of Marvel films in unique new torture techniques. Force people to keep their eyes open and watch this crap and they'd divulge most information within minutes.

So new Lord of the Rings films are in the works. Not sure if it's a money grab, if they're just protecting the rights, or both. Probably both. I don't think they're re-makes, but expansions. There's lots of places to go - the Angmar War, the Gondorian Civil war, the fall of Khazad-dum... I just hope they do it justice. I want it to be more like the LotR trilogy and less like The Hobbit, and definitely not like The Rings of Power.

Watched the new Luther movie last night. Netflix have bastardised it big time.
Not sure if the ending is alluding to him becoming Bond. Not a great watch.

Have to say, I think the show was overrated anyway. It was a good show, but nowhere near some of the other great telly we’ve had over the last few years. The film didn’t feel like Luther at all. Thought the Martini bit was funny. Not sure if the ending hints at Bond, but it does hint there may be more to follow - hopefully fucking not.

Marlowe - Sky Original late 1930's gum shoe flick based on a pretty rubbish recent novel based on old Raymond Chandler novels that were actually good. Been a series of great films through the years including the brilliant Bogart opposite Bacall 'The Big Sleep' - and subsequent others - but nothing for a while.
As a huge fan of noir and trusting of Liam Neeson I was willing but my goodness is this a dreadful movie. Pacing, script, filming location stand-ins for 30's LA, any sort of coherent storyline, none of it was there. I genuinely had to rewind several times to see if I had missed something that explained what I was watching (I hadn't).
Not a regular contributor to this thread but if anyone enjoys noir/Marlowe you might be conned into watching this so I'm here to warn you against it. The worst insult I can give it is that Marlowe is as dull and time-stealing as the remake of Sleuth.

The worst insult I can give it is that Marlowe is as dull and time-stealing as the remake of Sleuth. I watched it the other night as I have a love/hate relationship with Neil Jordan. This is bafflingly awful given the levels of talent involved. Everything about it is off by a couple of clicks. But it’s mainly down to an dire script, which seems to decide that none of the basic rules of screen writing are necessary here. Which considering it was written by William Monahan is shocking. But above all else, as yo7 say, it’s mind-numbingly boring. Which for a Noir is the worst crime of all.

Watched Elvis last night. Thought the lad looked more like a young Travolta. Was alright anyway, Hanks’ voice got on my tits.
