Attack the Block is about a 'gang' of teenagers in South London who stumble upon an alien invasion whilst out causing mayhem on Bonfire night. The film is packed with energetic camera work, quick British humour and although small budget, it grabs the level of attention a film four times its budget would. Aliens, South London accents and cheesy comedic one liners don't often go together and aren't exactly the ingredients of an Oscar winning performance, but add to that a peculiar concept, an applaudable performance by a group of relatively unknowns and the experienced hands of Nira Park and Edgar Wright and you've got something which might find itself amongst the DVD's the majority of you have collected. Watch it for what it is, and you might just be surprised at the Directors film debut.
