Parents can spend thousands of pounds trying to make their children smile, but all Wayne McArthur needed to entertain his son was to read through the players that City had wasted their money on over the last few years.
The video which can be viewed at
shows ten-month-old Micah laughing hysterically in his pink all-in-one suit as his dad lists each of the players and their transfer fees.
Mr McArthur, 33, who is actually a steward at Eastlands, was looking at ways to entertain Micah at their home in Victoria Avenue, Moston.
Micah enjoyed listening to the money wasted during Roberto Mancini’s reign so much that Mr McArthur moved onto the money spent by Mark Hughes, which resulted in even more laughter.
Mr McArthur told The Monday supplement ‘After I told him that the blues had wasted almost £28 million on Edwin Dzeko he did an extremely hearty laugh where you almost wondered if he’d stopped breathing.
‘But he started laughing again and I thought: “Yeah, he’s OK”. At that moment ‘I was unsure whether to tell the little fella about Julian Lescott being bought for £23 million but he looked so happy that I just had to tell him’.
The video was posted to Youtube after Manchester City’s recent two nil defeat to Dynamo Kiev and went viral after legendary club supporter Noel Gallagher realised that they had spent over £500 million on players but still couldn’t manage to breakdown a team of farmers captained by a 47 year old former Chelsea reserve. It has now been viewed more than 750,000 times.
Mother Mandi McArthur said: ‘We were in shock – out of all the people that could tweet it or post it on their Facebook page he’s the one I would have picked, he’s a hero of mine and a true blue’.
Gallagher, who has more than 1,350,000 followers said: ‘If you can’t laugh at yourself who can you laugh at? Oasis spent twenty years at the top but didn’t earn enough to buy a clown like Yaya Toure, how can that be right?’
Mr and Mrs McArthur have received offers from people wanting to buy rights to the video up to £10,000, but say it is just for fun and not for sale.
‘Hearing our little boy laugh is all we care about, if we brighten people’s days up along the way then all the better’ Mr McArthur said.
But it seems that listening to the transfer history of Manchester City is not the only way to make Micah laugh hysterically.
The youngster received hospital treatment for laughter induced spasms after being told that Roberto Mancini had promised to end City’s 35 year trophy drought and had also suffered a near death experience on learning that David Platt was to become his assistant manager.
