I know there's an MMA thread, and MMA was derived from JKD, however I feel it deserves it's own thread. Does anyone else practice JKD? I've been doing it for about three years now and I love it. I've done various martial arts throughout my life, but this is the one that has really captured my attention. The philosophies of Bruce Lee are very interesting to me and I've adopted a lot of them into my own life. In my opinion he is the best martial artist who ever lived. I've had the luxury to train with Chris Kent and Dan Inosanto, and met Bruce's personal trainer and the stories they've told me about Bruce I will never forget.

There will never be another Bruce Lee. The man was insanely good. Especially in Enter the Dragon ;D. I used to box; the taste for beer put a stop to it (that and when a heavy duty punch bag and metal frame fell on my head whilst I was hitting it). I've liked the thought of doing some sort of martial arts for as long as I can remember. And told myself that once I have had my operations and recovered that I will get to it. There are so many styles to pick from though that I know I'm going to get a headache trying to decide. Although GKR I will definitely avoid.

I'm not familiar with what GKR is (-_-) sorry mate. But I feel that everyone will find that niche in martial arts. I've done everything from Karate and Tae Kwon Do to Philippino (not sure on spelling) Martial Arts and JKD just really hooked me in. I have always wanted to try Wing Chung as well though, since it's what Bruce started out with.

thats awesome about the people you've got to train with
i always knew JKD as a mix of different arts, basically whatever works. Bruce Lee used to teach that running away is possible was JKD

Yeah, training with them was really a great experience. I've also trained with Cass Magda, who is my Sifu's instructor and one of Dan Inosanto's top students. I hope to train in California at the Magda institute someday to get certified to teach JKD.

I'll have to look him up, was it just MMA or does he do JKD? Or is it something completely different?

it's basically JKD in the sense that it's whatever works, but it's just basic self protection - your basic shit. he's joint founder of the British Combat Association with Peter Considine. www.geoffthompson.com

i don't do much at the minute, basically i went on Geoff Thompsons course last year which he runs twice a year after reading his book 'Dead Or Alive' which i picked up because it looked an interesting read. one of his instructors on the course runs a boxing club in essex and iv been over for a one-on-one and i enjoyed it so i'd like to join his saturday class at some point. boxing and judo/wrestling is what GT rates as the best arts to learn, so i'm gonna have a look at both.

That's why I like JKD, it takes the best of all styles. I learn things about Judo and Boxing in JKD, and a whole lot of other things.
