Anyone heard Avenged Sevenfold's new album? it's available to stream for free on itunes at the moment. Good shit. Do they still think they're a GOFF Guns n Roses? Kinda. I dig them as a modern day GnR though.

It's actually not as ballady as the last one. It's more of a typical metal album if anything. Some of it is almost Maiden-esque.

Anyone heard Avenged Sevenfold's new album? it's available to stream for free on itunes at the moment. Good shit. I listened one or two tracks from their first album a couple of years ago and I didn't like it, so I wasn't interested since then. But the posts here made me curious. You're right, this is quite good. The singer isn't at the top level but good enough. The music is good hevy stuff, and there is one or two flawless track. Thanks for the recommendation!

That was just off the top of my head though and there's loads more. If you need more recent ones let me know as you've probably heard a lot of these. Unfortunately most of the albums coming out that I like are by bands that have been going 15-20 years or even 30 years! Even the "new school" metal bands I like like Killswitch, Avenged Sevenfold and Trivium have been going for a decade or close to it! There don't seem to be many good new bands.

tommo you're right mate I have heard most of them apart from one or two I can check out. yeah even recent releases of bands that have been around a while will be good recommendations if you've got a few.
ginge, I've not heard of the bulk of your list mate. will check out the bolded ones. agree on ghost reveries, the album that got me into opeth. never seen them live

Dead End Kings is awesome. Every Katatonia album is. Not sure if I'd call them metal though.
Tool's 10,000 Days is one of the best albums of the decade but I was hesitant about calling that metal too.

Agree with Dimmu's In Sorte Diaboli too but don't know if you're into black metal much Jim? All Soilwork's recent albums are pretty good. Symphony X - Paradise Lost and Iconoclast As I Lay Dying - Awakened Fear Factory - Mechanize and The Industrialist Children of Bodom - Are You Dead Yet? Blooddrunk and Relentless Reckless Forever are all catchy as fuck
I'll be back with more if and when I think of them.

Katatonia - Doom metal. I thought Dead End Kings raised the bar. Even by Katatonia's own standards. Agree that all their albums are amazing though. Tool - Everything metal On Dimmu - Actually I dig Dimmu's earliest albums the most - Stormblast and For All Tid. Their last album was a pile of shit though.

I actually prefer their middle stuff. Spiritual Black Dimensions is my favourite one. In Sorte Diaboli was great though, but yeah I didn't like the last. Different band now though aren't they since some key members departed.

Yep. That was a decent album. As was Enthrone Darkness Triumphant. Mourning Palace is one fuck awesome song and video.
On videos - Dimmu probably make the best videos. Although there is an argument to be made about how corny they can get. I remember getting goosebumps when I first watched the video of Progenies of the Great Apocalypse.
In Sorte Diaboli owes a lot to Hellhammer. He was majestic in that album.
