Serie A - Pogba scores winner as Juventus beat Bologna
Paul Pogba put in a star turn as Juventus extended their unbeaten run in Serie A to 49 games with a 2-1 win over Bologna in Turin.
The Italian champions needed an injury-time goal from former Manchester United youngster Pogba to secure their ninth league win in 10 games this season.
Fabio Quagliarella had given Juve the lead in the 54th minute, but Saphir Taider levelled the scores with 20 minutes to go.
It looked like Bologna were going to record their third 1-1 draw with Juventus in three games until Pogba headed home substitute Sebastian Giovinco’s cross from the left in injury time.
Antonio Conte’s team are now nine games away from equalling the Serie A record of 58 games unbeaten, set by Fabio Capello’s AC Milan side between 1991 and 1993.
Juve could have taken the lead on the quarter-hour mark, when Nicklas Bendtner found Pogba on the edge of the area, and the 19-year-old cut inside and curled a brilliant effort from 30 yards that hit the outside of Bologna goalkeeper Federico Agliardi's post.
Pogba then showed brilliant technique three minutes later to bring the ball down at full stretch and set up Quagliarella, but the Italy international’s shot was easily saved by Agliardini.
Pogba and then Bendtner forced Agliardini into scrambling saves with long-range efforts but Stefano Pioli’s side managed to get to the half-time break on level terms.
It was not to last, as Quagliarella netted his third league goal of the campaign nine minutes into the second half.
The goal was created by the brilliance of Pogba, who chipped up the ball down the left channel to find Emanuele Giaccherini, and his header across goal gave Quagliarella the easiest of chances.
Bologna were gifted an equaliser on 70 minutes when Juve midfielder Paolo De Ceglie played the ball across his own goal and straight to Taider, who slammed his shot past Juventus goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and in off the far post.
Pirlo went close with a free-kick, then Giovinco forced Agliardi into a save with his legs at the near post, before Pogba scored his second goal in successive games three minutes into injury-time when he beat the Bologna offside trap to head home Giovinco’s cross to the far post.
