Nothing wrong with improving your squad. If Real can give him a reasonable amount of playing time, you'd have to say more than likely that Modric will sign for them. Assuming he's interested in the first place. You'd imagine if they are going to spend £35m it's going to be on someone who's a first team player, I can't see Modric being that person. He certainly isn't going to dislodge Alonso and I'd say he's not defensively minded enough to warrant starting next to him as part of a deeper midfield two. People have suggested him playing a more attacking role but I can't see him being picked ahead of Ozil etc. Maybe I'm missing something but either way, if his choice was based on a footballing decision you'd of thought we were the better choice, but then again there is the lure of Madrid and all that bollocks so who knows. This. There's no way they would spend £35m on another benchwarmer. Moreso, Modric would surely look to be going somewhere other than to be regarded as a squad strengthener.

It could well be ignite interest from chelsea of from us or city - a ploy played well out by the agent's or RM could well have pulled the plug and now he is in the limbo.

Just watched on SSN there that the deal to Madrid is very much on, Modric wants to leave Spurs and they would rather sell abroad than to another PL club. If this is true I just can't see Madrid's or Modric's logic. They must be clearing the decks because they are over stocked in central midfielders, both attacking and sitting. Ozil anyone? :-(

As I've stated countless times, I honestly couldn't see what lots of you did in Modric. I don't think he would have ever fit in here. Moutinho would be a much better option or even Cabaye, so I'm not arsed about us 'supposedly' missing out on him. Especially for the silly money being quoted. If he's worth half of what we sold Ronaldo for, then I'd love to see how much we could flog Anderson for, who I feel is a superior player to Modric. Or would be if he manages to get his act and body together.

Or would be if he manages to get his act and body together. Modric is the only other person in the league who can do what Scholes does for us. That is my perspective at least. Its another matter altogether that he would have cost an astronomical amount. So yeah, even I'm not too bothered about missing out on him for that amount. You could say he probably wouldn't have fit into our line up. Thats your opinion, although I beg to differ. But saying that Anderson is ''superior''? Please. Potential is one thing, performance quite another. Modric has consistently been one of the best players in the league for the past 3 seasons. Outside United Anderson is talked about as a big money flop. I'm not denying he doesn't have potential but we can only start comparing him to the likes of Modric when that translates to actual on the pitch performances (or appearances at the very least)!

Anderson, in his first full season helped us win a European Cup and the Premier League bossing midfields all round Europe. Modric in 5 years at Spurs won approximately, diddly squat and bossed no midfields. I'm sticking with my point about Anderson.

Ronaldo wouldn't have won much by himself in that Spurs side! Didn't boss midfields? Thats like saying Ronaldo didn't score goals!

It isn't really, because Ronaldo did score goals and Modric doesn't boss midfields.

That is a very empirical statement to make. If bossing midfields means kicking lumps out of the opposition then yeah, he didn't. But if it means keeping possession and creating chances then very few have been better at it.

it's a stretch to say 'anderson bosses midfields' as much as it is about modric. ando barely plays let alone bosses a game. comparing what they've won and whether they've bossed a game or not doesn't paint the full picture when you're comparing them

I don't think his job is to boss midfields really. He's about 3 stone, he couldn't boss a sausage supper. He's lovely to watch though, linking play between midfield and the forwards. He was 2nd only to David Silva in terms of creating chances for his team last season - that tells me he would excel in a side with better players around him.
That said, I've went off him with the price tag attached. I also think Moutinho would be a better fit now we have Kagawa and Rooney to play the role Modric would fancy. I genuinely think Fergie is happy with what he has now in midfield, rotating between Carrick, Scholes, Anderson, Cleverley and Powell to play along with Kagawa (assuming he will play Kagawa behind 2 forwards). Fergie says he will make one more signing, maybe two. My guess is Baines, and if he can find the right man at the right age and the right price, another midfielder. Personally, I think we are well stocked in midfield and should go balls out for Moura.

Tried to look for stats to compare the two players but could only find last season's and that isn't a valid comparison really. Having said that Modric was second in the list of passes completed with an 88% accuracy. Not too shabby in my books. Anyway, if any of you stumble upon previous seasons' stats do post up a link. Should make for an interesting comparison. Another thing I noticed and was quite frankly shocked - Modric weighs 67 kgs. Ando 69! Who woulda thunk it?!
