once again, vs Fulham today.
good going forward. goal threat
defensively gets beaten too easily. gives away stupid free kicks.
what worries me is that while we've seen good attacking full-backs mature into good defenders, i doubt he has the intelligence. watch him giving away needless free kicks on the halfway line when fulham are mounting the pressure on. you've gotta be thick to go flying in there. he's old enough and experienced enough to know not to do it. he seems to be a player who doesn't learn lessons
shame cos he's the bravest fucker, puts his head where i wouldn't put a foot.

He turns in a MotM performance and you still want to lay into him, why am I not too surprised?

MOTM in who's opinion? not mine. a defender who can't do his primary job doesn't get MotM unless the side was offering fuck all going forward and he was dragging us kicking and screaming into the opponents half. and this werent the case
i'm maybe one of the few on here who has doubts about him, but don't paint it like i'm on a witchhunt for him or owt. also since i don't knee-jerk and im the Outlook Realist who doesn't get in a flap over setbacks i resent that lil remark.

I certainly not one to get flappy over critiquing of players, I do more than most. Its just strange to go into after a good performance, perfect? No but good still. Its at that point a critique begins to look like an agenda. I'm not saying it is, but could give off that impression. Maybe its just me though, players I complain about, I pay extra effort into praising when they do actually perform.

I agree with Jimbo on his analysis of Rafael in today's game. To someone watching the highlights he may have seemed like MOTM but he messed up quite often in defence. In fact no one in particular stood out. Would probably give it to RVP for that peach despite being generally anonymous. Kagawa had a very good game again. Best player in our squad on form. By far!

Well was just saying this in the match Thread. Although i am not laying into Rafael, wish that he wouldn't give those FK's( we will get punished mostly from it)and also he was beaten far too easily today. He got the goal and also another which was saved by Shwarzer , but still if he could just tweak his game a little he would be brilliant. But that Said Jim, if you think rafael is experienced and Old enough to know what not to, expect some stick from peeps here who know you stand up for Evra whenever he gets the stick for failing to do so just that.

I like Rafael. He's still young and thus still learning. Long term he's a great prospect at RB, but in the short term he's bound to make mistakes. I'd be much more worried about Evra who is experienced yet gets rinsed seemingly every single week.
But defenders tend not to blossom as early as wingers or other players, so Rafael has a lot of time to grow and learn the art of defence. I certainly don't intend on being critical of him today after he scored, had one ruled out for offside and forced their 'keeper into a good save from distance.
