Yeah, bit of both. The implication was his passing wasn't up to standard for International football and he used the fact that it was "off" against San Marino to re-enforce that. He was then shown that Clevs hit 141 out of 145 in the game and just looked like an utter arse.

clevo plays a short passing game and with 97-odd % pass completion collymore is definitely wrong to describe his passing as 'off'.
IMO cleverley is a workhorse. he works hard, covers lots of ground, he's mobile. if collymore would have just questioned whether he can be a regular provider/creator and can offer a decent return of goals i think that's a much fairer debate.
i get shit on round here for my opinion on cleverley but bestie was adamant 2 summers ago that he was as good as wilshere and as far as i can see they are completely different players and i'm still waiting to see if clevo has that xfactor.

I'd said previously, Collymore is entitled to his opinion but if you are going to specify an area of as a weakness that is completely unfounded by hard evidence then you just look like a tit.

People forget how few games Cleverley has actually played for United. You say "2 summers ago" as if Clev has had all that time to prove you wrong, but he was injured for most of last season. Hasn't he only just got to double figures in terms of Prem starts for United?
Well harsh to write him off as just a workhorse. That's like saying Xavi is a workhorse. Yes he works hard but that's not his best quality. His passing and composure on the ball are great, he can control a game when he's on form. He keeps the ball moving quickly which is important, and as for his apparent inability to make and take chances, he's scored a couple this year and will improve, and that cross last night was a dream ball. If Beckham had put that in people would rave about it, but it's Cleverley so a lot don't even acknowledge it.

he's a professional footballer tommo, he does it full-time, and you're raving about him hitting a good cross?
yes he is relatively inexperienced, which is why i'm not 'writing him off'.
there's nothing wrong with being a workhorse. every side needs them. the xavi comparison is a bit silly.
i haven't seen him ever 'control a game'.
he does move the ball quickly and he's mobile. is that the xfactor that i'm talking about? not really.

Does anyone know if Collymoan has been shown the 97% statistic and asked to comment on his previous fallacy? I think I'd only be interested in this if there's a reaction from him about that.

just to draw a line under this debate. i like cleverley, everyone likes cleverley. i just have a different opinion on what type of player he is. that's all there is to it, no big deal.
i'd not seen him play much apart from the odd wigan game and several people on here who'd seen him more than me built him up as this special player, our great hope for midfield. if it appears i single him out or something then it goes back to this.

I suppose since Ronaldo is a professional footballer we shouldn't rave about it whenever he sticks one in from 30 yards.
And we shouldn't rave about Scholes passing ability because he's been a pro for the best part of 20 years.
And whenever Messi beats a few players with ease - not impressive. He plays professional don't you know?

Not if that opinion was based on utter bias or was complete and utter horse shit. Which this affects both cases

Come on Carbon! Everyone knows United are an overrated club, with overrated players supported by an overrated fan base and United's successes are hugely overrated. Of course, one thing that is not overrated nor exaggerated are the referees "love" for us
