i get the feeling people forget that at least one undisputed Legend of this club has left the club and come back (Mark Hughes) and is still considered a (playing) legend at least, even though he has played for/ managed teams that we despise (Chelsea/Citeh). great player but legend even in the player sense is arguable now. i don't know. it's not even managing city that gave me the hump, it's when he said that the highlight of his career was playing for the fucking rents. now i don't know for a fact that he said that, but it was reported. i'd be happy to find out sparky didn't say that, or at least that he was just being a cheeky cunt and didn't mean it.

what happened to 'dreaming' Rorschach?
i thought that was what the game was all about. hoping that ur team would pull off what others simply cant. we have been doing it for years, shit we did it this summer with RVP. (anyone who really believed that he was United bound in December of 2011 needs a hard long look at themselves)
i for one will hope, DREAM even, that this can happen. I'll stop when he re-signs with Real or signs up with another team. until such time let those that want to think the 'impossible' possible have their fun.
being realistic in football just isnt any fun, especially now, its the 'whats to come' that get's a lot of us through the dross that we see oh too often from our club these days. even if that 'whats to come' is as likely as us winning the lottery.

Not sure about legends XI because it depends whether you're taking into account longevity, love for the club etc.
In terms of ability though he is the best player ever to play for the club.

we are talking sparky right? he wouldn't get in the majority of all time United XI's. as good as he was, and he was very good. there's just too many better strikers ahead of him.

Just to clarify I was talking about Ronaldo not Sparky.......didn't read those posts closely enough.
Defo wouldn't have Hughes in any best ever United XI.

In terms of ability though he is the best player ever to play for the club. assuming you're talking ronaldo here. the older generation will argue that would be Best. an even older generation will argue it's Edwards.

I'm sure they would. Tough to compare, especially in the case of Edwards as even the older generation sadly didn't get to see him in his prime. Ronaldo is the best player I've ever seen play for United and the 2nd best player I've ever seen anywhere. That's all I can say I suppose.

Ok, maybe i have overestimated Hugh's standing in the eyes of the club's supporters, but i stand by my assertion that when it was first suggested that he could have made a comeback back then, that there would have been some supporters that thought we should have not 'looked back' and instead moved forward with new recruits.
i suspect that many of those would consider that initial assertion unfounded considering his impact at the club in his second stint.
with that said, IF there is a chance, however slim it may be, that a player of Ronaldo's caliber may come back to this club, i will hang on to it until im dead sure that it cannot happen.it may be a waste of energy to some, but to others it is a realisable utopia.
and i for one, as stated earlier, will not hold it against anyone to dream that the joint best player in the world, one that has a stated affection for the club and all it stands for, wishes to end his career here, and possibly bring the club to previous levels of undoubted domination.

Would love for it to happen but can you imagine the conversation with Gill and the Glazers, "so, you know that player we sold a while back for a record fee, you know, the £80m we got you to line your pockets with?" "Oh yeah, I know" " yeah well we'd like to buy him back for the discounted price of £120m, how's that sound!?"
Can't see that myself!!

He was/is a Chelsea fan.So I wont hold that against him, he was home-grown and he served us well.

My respect for Hughes seems to diminish with every new managerial job he gets. He's just ones of those players where his non-playing career tarnishes my memories of his playing career. Same with Keane, but to a far lesser extent.

I still love Royston. don't care what he's done since leaving the club really.

I still love Hughes but he has made it hard in recent years.
He was, along with Robson, my idol growing up. Any time I start to get annoyed at him, I think of him stretching to score a stunning last minute volley, at Wembly, in an FA cup semi final against Oldham when the wheels looked like coming off our double bid and we were about to lose.
That puts a smile on my face.

He was my hero too as a lad, absolute Bull of a player, not to mention his steel ankles that defenders used to hurt their feet on lol.
He has made it hard Dan I agree but I still have that soft spot for the old war horse.
