The Ashes kicks-off today England won the toss and elected to bat first. Should be a cracking series. England middle order needs to step up if they want to compete.

Watching it now, don't really understand test cricket, but it's sport and it'll do. I think they're doing alright but I've no idea really Its a little different from ODI and T20, there is no over limits, the teams gets to play twice. For Example, Scenario 1: England bat first and score 300 and Australia score 250. England take a lead of 50 runs to the second innings. England bats again (second innings) and scores 200, then the target is 251 (1st innings lead + 2nd innings score) for Australia to win the match. Scenario 2: England bat first and score 300 and Australia scores 350. Australia take a lead of 50 runs to the second innings. Then England bats again scores 200, then target for Australia is 151 (Aus lead minus England's second innings total). If Australia can chase that inside 5 days then Australia wins, if they lose all the wickets then England wins. If neither Australia could chase nor England could pick all the wickets inside 5 days then it will be a draw. Follow on: The team batting second needs to have scored 200 runs less than the team batting first. In this case, the team batted first can tell the other team to bat again.

Cheers mate, that's actually really informative I can watch with a little bit more knowledge now lol. Had to bail out about 2 hours ago though and do some other shit, so I'm gonna try and get back into it tomorrow....How did it turn out on the first day, or is it still going?

A day consists of maximum of 90 overs, England are doing really well at the moment and if they can manage a total of 400 in the first innings then its very tough for Australia because Australia has to bat last which is very tough to bat because of increase in wear and tear in the pitch as the game progresses.

This'll be a draw unless there's a proper collapse

This'll be a draw unless there's a proper collapse I think anything over 400 is just a bonus because the slowness of the pitch is more suited to England than Australia. Also I think Australia miss workhorse bowlers like Ryan Harris and Peter Siddle who used to bowl tight spells and give Johnson the freedom to bowl aggressively. They cant keep the English batsmen quiet and they scored quick runs. I think England has the upper hand and I cant see England losing this match.

Australia have started badly, but have ended quite well on the 1st day. Even though Eng are nearing 400, I dont see them out of danger yet. Australia are an aggressive side & they would still fancy their chances. A Smith and/or Warner century would set up the match nicely. The key to the contest would be would be Anderson's spell.

Exactly, Anderson will be the key for England and don't underestimate Broad, he can be handy too. Even if Australia bat well in the 1st innings and get close to England's total, the second innings is always going to be tough. Remember a slow wicket is not easy to score quick runs as England doesn't have the extra pace like Johnson and Starc have, So I don't think Australia can score 350+ in a day.

All set for an intriguing match. A game lasting 5 days & ending with a result (not a draw) would be great.

Good fight shown by the English tail. 87 runs added by the last 3. Ali has been a good all-round find for them.
What has been nice to see is England scoring at more than 4 an over, which Aussies are almost surely going to match. Nice entertaining stuff

Got my very own Sky box delivered and set up this morning. Just in time for the Ashes! Over the moon, and cannot wait for the highlights/Day round ups on catch up.
