Manchester United are closing on a deal for a new goalkeeper. However, it's not Stoke's Asmir Begovic, Liverpool's Pepe Reina or Real Madrid's Iker Casillas just yet but former Reading starlet Dean Santangelo. The 19-year-old is being brought in from Augsburg in Germany and is expected to be given a short term contract until the end of the season. Santangelo was born in London but raised in Switzerland before returning to England where he graduated through Reading's ranks. He also had loan spells with Bromley before looking to revive his career in Germany. Augsburg are struggling in the Bundesliga but Santangelo has been restricted to playing for their B team. United are willing to give him a chance to impress as clubs look to take some of their other young keepers on loan. Santangelo said: 'My father got a call from Manchester United on Wednesday. This weekend I fly to England and will be there to sign a contract.' United remain in the hunt for a first team goalkeeper also with David de Gea expected to return to Spain in the summer. He's spent time in the Fatherland, so Herr Bestie should be happy if this comes off.

if i was Ben, i would be questioning my position in the club. he is undoubtedly a good GK, and if he is to realise his potential, he need to be playing First Team games. it is unfair to him (and i'm taking this purely on an 'if i was him' level here), to sit on the bench and watch De Gea, who is around the same age as him, excel in the first team.
He is third choice, and rarely gets a game. it would be a waste to have him rot on the bench IMHO. to be third choice GK maybe the worst job in football if you ask me. maybe a move to a Championship level team would kick him on. I dont see him being ready for the CL and the Prem, but at his age he need to be playing games.

He's spent time in the Fatherland, so Herr Bestie should be happy if this comes off. There seems to be some confusion. Ich liebe good players. There happen to be a lot of good players in or from Germany right now. Had RoM existed in the '90s, you would have seen me hoping for signings from the Serie A, for example.

yeah serie A was the nuts in the 90's. lots of players i'd have loved to see at United.
Bestie's not alone in wanting a German at United. we are long overdue some of that. Preferably a crafty midfielder, one of those typical German platyers that do a job to perfection every time and pisses everyone else off.

But wasn't anders on his way out after falling out or something which resulted in Amos being called back. I am sure i read that here in some thread. Which would mean that Amos becomes No.2 to DDG ( hopefully , DDG remains No.1) and this new kid takes Amos place as understudy PS: - SAF_Legend that's a bloody good pic in your sig mate
