I have also been wondering about this recently and was about to post on the subject...
If Ole gets top 4 and wins one of the cups that we are still in, he would make a pretty strong case for keeping him on...
Having said that, I would not be in favour as we have an opportunity to get one of at least two top class managers out there right now...
But every time we get a result like against the Citizens, I do start to consider what might be...
...and then I remember how last season ended...and I also ask myself which other prem team would give Ole a job right now...

just read an interview with AWB where he said that he stays after training to work on his offensive game and we can certainly see an improvement in that area in the last couple of weeks.
for all the talk about a rebuild, i do think that this is something that ole is doing a great job. instilling the right mentality into those young players, making them proud to wear the shirt and showing them how far hard work can get you. i think we have the youngest squad in the league and many of the kids and younger players are starting to show some proper character. they clearly need some more experiece around them but we've now got players like henderson, awb, williams, mctominay, rashford, greenwood, james, tuanzebe who not only have talent but also seem to have strong heads. listening to tuanzebe saying that he wants to captain united one day and he barely played any games this season, well thats the kind of thing i want to hear from them.

There's an Athletic article today on Ole's subs. I can't post the whole thing as they have cracked down on that in the past. But here's a passage of interest on this season:
Solskjaer’s men only earned five Premier League points from goals scored in the final 30 minutes of games (16th best in the league – Wolves were No 1 in this category with 22 points), three Premier League points from goals they scored in the final 15 minutes (15th-best – Liverpool led with 12), and as for Premier League points from goals scored in the final 10 minutes of games [MUFC are 19th, with 1 point].
That chimes with a lot of what I've felt about his subs. They've been ineffective. But more broadly, it also chimes with another issue I've had post-Fergie, where we generally just don't seem to chase games. If we're 1 goal down after 85 minutes it feels like we accept our fate, or at the very least are incapable of putting any pressure on.

It often seems like the players aren’t even trying when we’re losing and there’s not plenty of time to play. Take the Sevilla game for example, you’d expect players — even very tired players — to go all out and try to get back to the game when they are losing a semi final of a major European tournament, but they were total pedestrians.

He doesn’t seem to have any answer if the game is slipping away. A good manager reacts.

Assuming we don’t sign anyone of note by the end of this transfer window, and given the fact we have a top 8 squad as things stand, this will be an awfully difficult season for Ole.
In about 2-3 months when Ed throws Ole under the bus, who could we hire other than Pochettino?

Nagelsmann is the dream for a real long term manager.

Well we could go for Allegri but then I don’t think it’s a coincidence that Pochettino still doesn’t have a job yet.

His Liverpool nonsense has closed people's view on him but Rodgers has definitely improved his Billy big bollocks attitude and he has an actual discernable style of play.

I think the fact we still don’t really have a distinguishable style of play tells a lot of Ole’s management. Too often we’ve won because of someone having a good game, rather than the team playing the system as intended.
That being said, it also seems a bit unfair to judge Ole with such a weak squad. Last season he had a paper thin squad, and this season it seems to be another case of Woodward shafting the manager.

Even though we all know his shortcomings I thought ole had done enough for a crack at this season.
If he just tows the “Happy with the squad”company line shite then I will have no sympathy for him when Ed throws him under the bus around Christmas.
Saying all that we won’t be hovering up trophy’s with ole in charge no matter who we sign.

Was aiming more to the fact he's bottled it two times when put under a bit of pressure. Can't really blame him for Gerrard's slip and Leicester had bad injuries in the second half of last season. Important thing to me is that he knows what he's doing tactically.

Unless we stumble across our own Klopp I still want to win trophies, albeit smaller ones.
