www.joe.co.uk/sport/cantona-remains-the-premier-leagues-most-important-player/4215"I feel close to the rebelliousness and vigour of the youth here. Perhaps time will seperate us, but nobody can deny that here, behind the windows of Manchester, there is an insane love of football, of celebration and of music." From those words it's clear that Eric Cantona just gets Manchester. Both in sentiment and psychology. There is something undeniably cool about the city - but more than that, it has the world's biggest superiority complex.................

realistically though, manchester is more of the alternative city.
don't get me wrong, given a choice of living in manchester or london i'd choose manchester every day of the week just like i'd choose berlin over practically any other german city. but london is by far the more mainstream city. it's beyoncé compared to manchester's the smiths.
i've a lot of respect for players that embrace the city for what it is. cantona and mata come to mind.
