UNITED HIT EIGHT TO SET UP ARSENAL SEMI-FINAL

Manchester United needed to win by a six-goal margin in the final group game at the Dallas Cup against Higashi Fukuoka at the Cotton Bowl in order to top the standings ahead of Tigres on goal difference.

The Reds managed that task with two goals to spare, racking up an 8-0 triumph against the Japanese side, with Nishan Burkart helping himself to a hat-trick. The victory sets up a semi-final date in the US on Friday with Arsenal while Tigres, the best second-placed team, meet Monterrey in an all-Mexican affair.

Joshua Bohui claimed the first two goals, tucking home after good passes by Mason Greenwood and Burkart and then converting a penalty low to the keeper's right when Largie Ramazani was fouled in the box. Some high pressing won the ball deep in Higashi territory to allow Burkart to slam in a third and it was 4-0 before the break, courtesy of Greenwood rounding the keeper to net when breaking clean through.

United kept going in the second half, with Jake Kenyon's far-post cross finished by Burkart and Dion McGhee's right-wing corner headed home by Greenwood for his fourth goal in three games in the tournament.

Swiss forward Burkart completed his treble by scrambling home when Dylan Levitt's belter rebounded off the bar and the back of the keeper and another McGhee corner led to number eight - Di'Shon Bernard thumping in a header for his first goal for the club.
