No. Meredith retired about 6 years before the WC.
Plus he was Welsh. Wales have only ever played in the 58 WC

I have no idea because I dont think England or Scotland played. Possibly Ireland but don't know and all our players came from those countries until fairly recently

James/Jim Brown. He's from Scotland, but played for the U. S.
Pretty sure we signed him literally on the boat from America. Played for us in the 30's.

Should have known you would get it.
Another interesting fact is that Jim & his son George are the only relations to both be inducted into the US National Soccer Hall of Fame.
EDIT:
And yes, Uniteds then manager, Scott Duncan, took a tugboat out to the liner and signed Brown on board, as several teams from both England and Scotland were waiting at the dock for the liner.

It goes to show that Englands relationship with Fifa has always been shit. Countries like the US and Uruguay in the World Cup but not England.

Well, actually England did get an invite even though they weren't in FIFA. Turned it down.
@ SET - That's as good a story as Forlan. Now we know where Fergie got his masterplans from.

Ok.....not quite sure what to make of that but, here goes: Uruguay were actually hosting the WC as the country would be celebrating the centenary of its first constitution, and the Uruguay national football team had successfully retained their football title at the 1928 Summer Olympics. The first World Cup was the only one without qualification. Every country affiliated with FIFA was invited to compete, and given a deadline of 28 February 1930 to accept. However, because of the long and costly trip across the Atlantic Ocean, and the length of absence required for players, very few European teams were inclined to take part. Some refused to countenance travel to South America in any circumstances, and no European entries were received before the February deadline. In an attempt to gain some European participation, the Uruguayan Football Association sent a letter of invitation to The Football Association, even though the Home Nations were not members of FIFA at the time. This was rejected by the FA Committee on 18 November 1929. Two months before the start of the tournament, no team from Europe had officially entered.

I knew England turned it down. I always thought it was because the World Cup was run by FIFA but apparently not.

No, they turned it down, like every other European nation except for France, Yugoslavia, Romania & Belgium, because it was a long, costly & dangerous trip.
It had nothing to do with FIFA. Especially as FIFA weren't crooked back then either.
