Drummer Rigby, 25, from Manchester, leaves behind a two-year-old son. Two men are under arrest in hospital after police shot them near Woolwich Barracks on Wednesday afternoon, in the aftermath of the attack. The suspects, believed to include Michael Adebolajo, were known to security services, sources have said. The victim's name was announced by the Ministry of Defence pending formal police identification. "An extremely popular and witty soldier, Drummer Rigby was a larger than life personality within the Corps of Drums and was well known, liked and respected across the Second Fusiliers," the MoD statement said. "He was a passionate and life-long Manchester United fan."He had joined the Army in 2006, and is described as a "loving father to his son Jack" and someone who would be "sorely missed by all who knew him". ----------------------- horrible. 20 mins down the road from me R.I.P

I had completely missed this whole thing. Was out for dinner last night and came in, went straight to bed; this was the first thing I saw when I fired up the computer in work this morning. Hadn't even read anywhere he was a red.

Well, its certainly a better world to live in than say, a century ago. There are definitely crazies out there, but at least they aren't ruling nations and causing mass genocide.
Still, every widely publicized gruesome news like today's does shatter one's faith in humanity.

I hear you. A while back an Indian soldier was beheaded across the border in Pakistan. Its baffling. I get the need to patrol borders to maintain peace, but its hard to fathom certain people's lust for barbarism.

There are lunatics in the world, always have been, always will be. Whenever a story like this breaks it's always shocking, but it happens.
Last year (I think) there was a British grandmother on holiday in Tenerife. Some Bulgarian bloke followed her around the shops before attacking and decapatating her. Then walked about the street carrying her head.
Lunatics can blame this, that, or the other. But it's just how it is. It can be a scary world sometimes.

Shocking stuff and saddening that it keeps happening. The worst thing about it all is all the focus seems to be on the 2 idiots that did it rather than the poor lad that lost his life for no reason what so ever just so these 2 fuckwits could try to prove a pointless issue.
Then you get the glorified keyboard warriors coming out with the same shit all over FB acting macho, "burn them all", "send them back to where they came from", "Kill all Muslims". That to me makes them just as bad as the idiots that do this shit. I'm against all it all but to blame a whole religion or a whole race on the acts of 2 sick twisted wankers is just fucking stupid. This is how the whole thing starts and escalates into something it shouldn't. Also where would they like to deport them to exactly? they were fucking British. The signs of people just wanting to jump on the wagon and not knowing any facts at all.
R.I.P to the brave lad that didn't deserve any of this and my sympathy goes to the family and friends.
