According to united website its pretty close to being done 6m and loan him back, Ill be honest Ive not seen anything of this kid to know what sort of quality he has, but 6m for a league 1 player, surely thats a little steep aint it?

The last installment would be depended on how he fares at United. If he is the real deal, you wouldn't give a fuck! Lol.

Very true but its a lot of money to piss up if hes not. These youngsters were splashing money on where we could be putting it towards top quality players for now not 4 or 5 years time. We should have learned from that when we signed Bebe and Obertan. Not to say he wont be quality, just with the way things are going we need to improve now not build to improve in several years time.

Watched the playoff final like others & he definitely stood out, albeit it was league 2 (no offence to them). He's a strong bloke, with good feet for being so tall too, he was drawing fouls around the box with his close control. His overall play, linking up with his team & decision making was impressive, & he took his goal great. He basically looks like a great raw foundation from what we can develop & mould. Only from one viewing this but Crewe has a well respected academy & Fergie's will have seen something in him to be paying that much, which most is actually going to be add-ons anyway.

It's a fair bit to pay, but different to Bebe and Obertan. Both those deals were "What the fuck?!" even by their own clubs. Blanc said he didn't see Obertan as United quality, and fuck me was he right, and as for Bebe? Well.
But Powell is being raved about, Gradi said he's the best to come through the system, better than Platty, and both Spurs and Arsenal have been linked with a move for him as well. Powell seems certain to make a move to a prem club, not even the players themselves thought that about old alien head and homeless guy.

Paul, i can't see us paying £6m for the kid. Half that possibly, maybe four.

Rather than loan him straight back, surely it would be better for him to be absorbed into the United fold initially so that he could be assessed and a development plan formulated before he goes anywhere?

The thinking is League 1 is better than the Reserves.

If he meets the criteria to raise it to the full amount then chances are £6mill would be cheap. I wouldn't be to sure about loaning him out, though I am talking about a loan of player we are yet to actually sign. The thing is when we loan a player out usually theres a sacrifice of level of quality of football to let a player get a consistent run of first team football and the experience that brings. Hes just had that. He does look quite physically developed too so we wouldn't have to worry about that aspect.

Good point, maybe take him on and loan him out in January if the gaffer feels he needs more game-time, there'll be no shortage of clubs that'd take him on -maybe even a lower lying PL club.
Again, just hypothetical as he's not our player yet.

If we get him, then it would be what we think is better for his development.
Is it better to get regular football, at a low level, or is it better to play reserves here at United, but training and working day in day out with the best coaches in the country, and training with Scholes, Giggs, Rooney, Carrick, etc?

Some rumors suggest Chelsea are in for him now and have offered 8mil. Even if this is rubbish, which I hope it is, we're shooting ourselves in the foot by taking so long with transfers at a stage where everyone knows we're in need of fresh players.
The media are all over our targets and by the time we get close to wrapping up a deal other clubs have started to realize they might be missing out and toss the cash at the player.

Dont't forget, he's only 18 and the best thing for him might be to remain in Crewe, as a place to live. He can stay with his parents, keep doing what he has been doing so far, and give himself a platform to join up with our squad next summer hungry to prove himself in a midfield that (probably) will have just lost Scholes, Giggs ("lost"? seen the back of more like!), Park (if he hasn't gone already), and Fletcher (can't see him coming back long-term if he gets back at all).

I'm not ruling out him coming to us outright, i'm guessing he may be loaned back to Crewe. Probably likely.
