Hosts Israel opened the thing vs one of the Scandinavian teams that play in red which finished 2-2.
Italy have just deservedly beaten England 1-0. The tone is set when you set up with 5 in midfield and Jordan Henderson is your captain really, ain't it? Zaha fit enough to be on the bench but not enough appear at all even at 1-0 with 10 minutes to go.Redmond looked good. Italy were a cut above though, very tidy.
I know a few of us are keeping an eye on the comp, so figured it'd be as well making a thread!

How Pearce keeps that job is beyond a joke. Tactically inept and afraid to play 'too many' flair players.
I mean he brought on Nathan Delfoseo or however you spell that cunt's name ahead of a kid who just signed for Manchester United. Did Luke Shaw play? Where's Tom Ince? Where's Will Hughes? Eurgh!

Israel played Norway in the first game, not Denmark.
I was looking forward to this competition but hadn't realised the squad Pearce had taken was so poor, then he compounds it by playing Wickham and Sordell? I mean really it's horrendous, we looked prehistoric in terms of technique compared to the Italians.
edit: tatty, I think Ince was suspended for this game so Pearce has an excuse for that at least but Chalobah should have started that game ahead of any of the other midfielders he picked.

Henderson as captain says it all right there. Pearce hasn't got a clue.

I know. I was thinking exactly that when Tyler was talking about Pearce's contract being up after this tournie. Honestly, if England want to have any hope of getting near the Dutch or the Italians (catching Spain and Germany is a pipe dream), they need to relieve Pearce post haste and get in someone who actually knows how to coach a football team to play football. Typical England to laud 9 games without conceding. 4 were friendlies, one was against Norn Iron (we're pretty gash at that level - not a word anyone about our senior team by the way!) and another against Azerbaijan.
England, as I said, lined up so negatively right from the off it was obvious how the game was going to go. Should have been more than 1-0 but the Itai's only manged 2 on target.

I actually rate Wickham, he's had a 'mare of a season but with a bit of luck he could turn into a half-decent player. Worked hard tonight but got nothing really. Agree Sordell playing is a mystery, and Chalobah showed some really nice touches. He should have started.

Pearce did this last time with a far better team than he has now. Incredible negative and incapable of playing anything approaching football. 3 Liverpool players in the team and people are surprised they are shite? Shelvey is a parks player. A poor one at that.

I know he was highly rated when was younger (which sounds daft of a u21 player, I know) but he doesn't seem to have much apart from his physical presence and even that he didn't use very well tonight as he seemed unable to hold the ball up effectively or generally link up at all with the rest of the team. Chalobah should have been one of the first names on the teamsheet for me, he looks a proper talent from the little bits I've seen of him at Watford and at 18 has the potential to be a top player, instead we look to Shelvey, who runs about fouling players and looking angry, and Henderson, who I can't remember doing anything of note at all in the game, it's sad, it really is.

I suppose Chalobah has had a long season that only finished a week ago, which may come into Pearce's thinking when picking a starting XI. But, as I keep saying. Pick your best XI then make changes when the game is won, or you need to alter the shape. Football is not rocket science.

However, in Pearce's defence, he's got a shotty group of players to pick from and barely any of them plyed top flight football season just passed. Compare that with the Italians, Spaniards, Germans and Dutch and there's a big job for anyone who took the job at this level.

Especially as Italy are probably the hardest game of the group so it would make sense to start your strongest 11, now we're on the back foot and need to get something from Norway, who looked a decent side and should have comfortably won their first game.

By the way, Lorenzo Insigne (the kid who scored ) is supposed to be an amazing talent.
So naturally I youtubed his ass.
What I found is mighty impressive. Got pace, power, finishing is top notch and some mad skillz to boot. Looks a tad cocky maybe with some of the celebrations. He will reach the top if he keeps the right attitude.
Feast your eyes.

When you look at the players eligible, England actually have some talent there, it's just that he can't pick the players he'd probably like to pick. Just at United, Jones and Wellbeck could play. Zaha is there. Wilshire could play too. Sterling, Ox Chamberlain. Pity they weren't/couldn't be picked. Team would be a lot stronger with that lot in.

Spain just beat Russia 1-0, Thiago and Isco looked class, Morata, the goalscorer, looked a threat when he came on, De gea had sod all to do.
Looking forward to the next game, Netherlands Vs Germany.

If any other team bar Spain wins this i will be in shock. The standard of players they have at this level is so scary. It just shows how strong Spain is as a football nation.
