Reckon people are being slightly mislead by their own impressions of what he's supposed to play like. Monitoring twitter it felt like I was watching a different game to the majority of people with regards to Strootman's performance. He's essentially exactly what we need, an anchor and a metronome in terms of keeping the ball moving - he's definitely capable of playing a more expansive game, that just isn't his role within the team, so there's your versatility. Defensively disciplined, always available for the pass and he's fantastic under pressure in terms of keeping the ball. He's also go the eye for the odd forward run and he played some lovely balls out to the flanks, switching play whenever possible whilst also putting the foot in.
One major attribute which I've picked up from reading so much about him is his undoubted leadership qualities, most young players and players at PSV have, in some capacity, noted how incredibly good he is at dishing out instructions, advice and what an absolute example he is in terms of his determination and will to win. We really need that in the team, especially with Rooney's future looking uncertain and Vidic not going to be around forever. For the amounts being quoted Strootman gets a resounding yes from me, if we're able to get both him and Fer, as is mentioned above, that'd be great business.

I see Southgate is apparently being lined up to replace Pearce if he isn't kept on as U-21s manager. Talk about one step forwards two steps back. Nightmare!
Well, for England. For the rest of us, another generation of laughing at England.

I have Strootman twice in action now. I think he has the ability to become a top class player. His game is something which i would like to see at OT next year. He gets up and down the field. Puts himself about and people have said he has great leadership skills. Him and Carrick would be a great midfield combo next year.
On the other Thiago has just been bossing games. He is going to be a world class player you can see that already. Its amazing how the Spanish can keep producing all these technically gift players from all sizes and ages.

Totally, from my point of view two midfielders, Strootman & Thiago/Fabregas, should be our priority.

If we sign either Thiago or Strootman I'll be delighted. If we sign both then we'll need to find something else to give out about as the midfield is sorted!

Assistant manager? No, Phelan's gone. I know! Jonny Evans is average, he should be sold. Also Carrick is crap.

carrick/strootman cleverley/fabregas or thiago
wonderful, no complaints at all. the only other niggles would be sales of anderson, nani, macheda, rooney and evra maybe. also vidic who has a contract until 2014, if the club wait until christmas could be risky but understandable considering the last 2 years

And the thing is, we've been saying this for ages, sort out the midfield and we're in perfect shape. Keeper, Defense & Strikers are all in great shape for the future. Adding a world class midfielder (and a potential world class midfielder) would put us in CL contention again.
