Moscow have to beat PSV and we have to beat Wolfsburg to qualify for the Playoff Round. Can't win the group now.

We seem to struggle in the mini Champions League, not for the first time.
Likely as we're fielding extremely young kids - else, I'm not so sure?

We seem to struggle in the mini Champions League, not for the first time. Likely as we're fielding extremely young kids - else, I'm not so sure? We are hampered by the age rules. PSV & Wolfsburgs teams play in an U19 league where as ours is an U18 league. Some of the Reserve players are too old at times, so the kids we play are really up against it. It will do them good in the long run. Its not often they get to play european opponents in a tournament that counts for something. Steep learning curve though, but then we did beat them 3-0 at their place.

If you look at the other teams though, it shows how different things can be at youth level. Middlesboro, Villarreal, Schalke, Torino, Reims & Spartak were all domestic champions in their leagues, yet their senior teams aren't usually in the running for their leagues. Munichs U19s are bottom of their UYL group with 1 point and 2 goals scored, whereas the team are 3rd in their league. EDIT: Still, it should be a cracking game in Wolfsburg now. Cant wait

Yeah, all great points SET.
It may also be that these so-called "smaller" clubs benefit from continuity going through the youtuh ranks whereas there are generally a few imports blended into what is usually a relatively young United side, with many either playing with their Reserve/u18 teams, as you've said.

Final game permutations: • CSKA will win the group with victory or if they draw and Wolfsburg fail to win. CSKA's head to head superiority over Wolfsburg and United means that the only way the Russian side could finish outside the top two is if CSKA lose and Wolfsburg win. • Wolfsburg will be through to at least the play-offs with a win, or with a draw if PSV do not win. Wolfsburg will top the group with a win if CSKA do not gain victory. • PSV will be through to at least the play-offs with a win and will top the group if Wolfsburg do not win. PSV will finish second with a draw if United win. • To reach the play-offs United must win and hope PSV lose. 2 must win games in a day - should be a cracker

04/12/2015 13:30, Report by Adam Marshall UNDER-19S MUST WIN IN WOLFSBURG
Manchester United must win at Wolfsburg in the UEFA Youth League on Tuesday (KO 15:00 GMT) with Nicky Butt's side aiming to bounce back from a heavy defeat to PSV Eindhoven last time out.
The Under-19s were well beaten by the Netherlands outfit to leave hopes of remaining in the competition hanging by a thread, but victory in Germany, coupled with a CSKA Moscow success against PSV, would be enough for the youngsters to finish as runners-up in Group B. Coach Butt will be without goalkeeper Dean Henderson after he was injured during the previous outing at Leigh Sports Village, while Zak Dearnley and Tim Fosu-Mensah were also hurt against the Dutch team, although Fosu-Mensah reappeared in the Under-18s' defeat to Blackburn Rovers. "In Europe, it's a different style of play and a different competition and we've struggled a little bit to adapt to that," commented midfielder Devonte Redmond. "It's a strong group but we'll go to Wolfsburg confident we can win. "That's the thing, we know what we need to do over there. So we'll be going to Germany to win the game and will see what happens in the group." Axel Tuanzebe could bolster the defence, but Cameron Borthwick-Jackson has been named as part of the first-team squad for the trip. www.manutd.com/en/Players-And-Staff/The-Academy/Academy-News/2015/Dec/uefa-youth-league-preview-wolfsburg-v-manchester-united.aspx

Live update from Germany:
HT 1-0 to the youth. Tuanzebe on 42. Nearly put it over the bar.
Good crowd, including about 100 reds.
