Watched the first two episodes of Rings of Power. All just feels a little flat to me. It looks great but the acting and script is a little weak.
I think they could've done with spending a bit of that mega budget on hiring some more classy, established actors.

Yeah, no. This is not what I expected. This might be the most expensive "and the crowd goes mild" moments in TV history..

It’s incredible to me just how poor the acting is in a show of this scale. In a big budget production you might get the odd actor out of their depth or miscast but there is virtually no one doing any kind of work of a standard expected on this. It’s like rocking up to watch Real Madrid and seeing a load of Scunthorpe players wearing the white jersey.

I get the criticism of the acting. None of the performances are great, some are varying degrees of fine to passable, but none stand out as great. And some are just terrible. If you're going to make a controversial decision that you know will rile up the chuds like having a black elf, you better get the right man for the job. The one they chose just looks confused most of the time. But the biggest problem is Galadriel. It's a fine line between being a headstrong, stubborn, prideful character and just being whiney, entitled and unlikable. They've managed to come down half a mile on the wrong side of the line, and I'm not sure they can fix it.

Some people have pointed out that a lot of the Game of Thrones cast were relatively unknown youngsters at the start but what they leave out is that though they ended up making a name for themselves by the end of the show, they had guys like Charles Dance, Lena Headey, Sean Bean, Peter Dinklage, etc to carry them through it amongst many more. To use another football analogy, some quality senior players to guide the kids. It's just sad. I'm a massive Lord of the Rings fan, the movies are amongst my all-time favourites but this may end up being the biggest disappointment in film/TV history. I'm hoping it picks up but it looks unlikely, for all the story might improve, we're still left with a general group of duds acting out what could potentially be exciting, meaningful scenes.

I'm new to Brassic, but it is so good! I recognize quite a few of the locations. The cast is phenomenal. That farmer bloke makes me piss! More chance of seeing a one legged dog piss on a frozen pond!! Love it.

He looks like he's doing Joey's 'smell the fart' acting from Friends. It hasn't been all bad, though. It does look spectacular at times, not spectacular enough to justify the budget, but beautiful nonetheless. Durin's wife has put in the closest thing to a memorable performance, and I've enjoyed pretty much everything with the proto-Hobbits, or whatever they're supposed to be - their absence was glaring in the last episode. I don't think it's a write-off yet. When I stop enjoying it more than The Hobbit movies is when it'll be time to give up on it.

I've tried to be positive about Rings of Power, but the last episode was just awful. It's at GoT season 8 levels of bad. I'm not massively on top of Tolkien lore, but I know some of the stuff with the Elves in the last episode was just absolute lore breaking nonsense. It's like the writers have never read any Tolkien at all.

Meh. Based on a game, it'll be shite. Have you played the game ? Edit: I realise my question sounds snarky. I'll elaborate. This game has been routinely called one of the greatest ever made in terms of world building, story and characters. They now have the excellent Pedro Pascal, and a good character from GoT to play those roles. Good start. They also have the game creator, Neil Druckmann, as part of the directorial team. Then there's Craig Mazin, who created Chernobyl which was great. They have assembled a solid team behind this, who know how to create similar universes such as the one portrayed in this game. Also, Nick Offerman. End. So we can be quite hopeful..

I do understand the opinion of its based on a game. However, it's one of the most incredible games ever. The story is primarily about a post apocalyptic era but it's much more than that. The character development in the story was fantastic. Give it a shot, I'm pretty sure it's going to be good.
I've done the game four times now and every time I get dragged in with the emotions. But, gaming isn't for everyone 🙂
