Yes, yes I had. Way back when Reus was playing for Gladbach actually.
We pretty definitively don't play excellent football - is van Persie not world class because of it? Was Ruud in the dark days of the mid-2000s?
I classify them as world class players because they are world class players.

'Magic Mario'. more of one-loves homoeroticisms It's easier to type than Goetze. (Not physically, but Paulie gets angsty when you write the 'oe' instead 'o with an umlaut'.) I classify them as world class players because they are world class players. arsed. your definition of world class might not be the same as the other guys. Any of them would walk into literally any team in the world. If other definitions of 'world class' are much different to that, then you have a point. Other variations could be: 'Wouldn't look out of place for any side in the World.' 'Could get into any team in world football.' 'Would fit into all the best club sides.' 'Almost as good as Ronaldo.'

I don't think Rooney is world class but then my definition of world class is different. I don't think anyone other than Messi and Ronaldo are world class. For me they're the benchmark and nobody is at their level. Maybe in a different era Rooney could be called world class, but then there's a lot of other players who are unlucky where that's concerned too. But that's my opinion.
I actually hate the phrase "world class" really and I'm annoyed at myself for using it so many times in this post. It's nearly as annoying as "top, top player".

Rooney is a great player and I'm glad he stayed because selling him (especially to Chelsea) would have been a mistake. I can understand people disliking him after holding the club to ransom in the past, and at the very least failing to cool rumours of his exit this summer (I believe Ferguson though), however I don't understand why any United fan would want Rooney out. I also can't understand why they wouldn't want him on the pitch after some of his performances recently.

world-class
1. Ranking among the foremost in the world; of an international standard of excellence; of the highest order. 2. Great, as in importance, concern, or notoriety.
You could argue that although he doesn't cover point one, he most certainly covers point 2 in terms of United. He is a very important part of the squad and we do tend to notice it when he isn't playing. There is no player in the united squad right now that you can say has covered both points, the closest I would say would be:
RvP - Covers point 1 - Hollands all time record scorer, and point 2 - well that part doesn't need an explanation does it.
But then there are players who haven't managed it at Country level that you might argue are in the "world class" bracket that have played for years and have excelled year after year, the likes of Giggs or Vidic. But if however we talk about ability at club level then there are a few in the squad and Rooney is one of the best at what he does. Players that stand out not only in the league but in Europe, Rooney as much of a cunt as he can be and without us being naive (just because we don't like him very much) is a high class.

No definition of world class should include international football, which is a step down from the Champions League.
The World Cup is just a few weeks once every 4 years so to judge a player on that is mental.

They have to work harder in the world cup. Not necessarily because the quality is better but winning the world cup is definitely harder than winning the champions League.

I've voted yes for one simple reason, he has been by far our best player this season. I don't think anyone can question the commitment and desire he has shown in every game(on the pitch) apart from Swansea away, I don't like him at all but I am no afraid to admit he has been fantastic this season. He's been in better form this season than he has been in the last two years, he claims it because he's playing higher up the pitch I don't buy that at all. What I do buy is his performances, he's been great in front of goal, his set pieces have been fantastic and his commitment has been second to none.
I don't like the guy, I was fuming when the club opted not to sell him in the summer. I wanted to see him rot in the stand for two seasons ruin his chances of going to the world cup, on the other hand Moyes had different plans for Rooney and so far those plans have worked out well.
I still undecided wether he should be offered another contract, if we bring in a worthy replacement then let him go even if it is for nothing. We've have got our moneys worth out of Rooney and so has he.
