Well as much as I hate that baby making scouse, Tony was simply off his rocker. Sterling went in hard and his tackle was just over the ball, but he didn't go in with a leg breaking challenge, he went in like a young player trying to earn playing time. If I was France-Honduras-Switzerland I would be very worried about Ecuador.... Bollocks. The initial contact with the ball was high and over the ball, but the follow through was both feet off the ground in a scissor motion. That's a potential leg breaker. Sterling was reckless at the very least. Bad challenge-yes. Red card-yes. But I will not get to riled up about this like some, every player on the pitch has had that same tackle happen to them, and also dished out the like wise. Players trying to force their way into the Gaffers plans at times will try to do to much to impress, and we see things like bad challenges, player out of position and exposed amongst many things that tend to play out. Tony being a vet should have handled himself better, during the WC a retaliation like that could be the difference from moving on to the next match, or crashing out of the tourney...

That's true, and running down the wing you could also blow out your ACL, or go into a 50/50 challenge a break both bones in your lower leg. The point is that nothing concerning your health is guaranteed when playing the game (this is Men Playing), whether in training or during a match shit tends to happen regardless of the competition...

That would be a very valid and well-made point if your examples didn't include a player making those decisions himself. A player chooses to sprint down the wing or go into a 50/50. He doesn't choose to have his standing leg scissored by some wee scrote trying to make an impression.

If it was any other time he wouldn't have cared. Last game before the World cup? What a clown Sterling is.

Exactly what bestie said. Valencia cannot guarantee it, no. But that idiot can choose not to make such tackles. That tackle was a conscious decision by Sterling. It's a friendly that is 10 days before the world cup. Calm the fuck down and ensure you all make it there? Save all the gung ho nonsense for Brazil? What everyone is saying is that yesterday was neither the time nor the place for it. It's not as if winning against Ecuador last night would mean they would progress through their group anyway. It's a nothing game. I said it in the other thread, this scheduling of friendlies before the world cup is absolutely moronic. It's just accidents waiting to happen. I mean for fucks sake these players have been playing rigorously for a year in their respective leagues, give them some time to fucking rest and recharge for the Cup? It's so sad for the players who get injured in these meaningless friendlies and miss out on the biggest stage of football. FIFA is just the worst thing to have happened to football in it's entirety as a sport. A bunch of monkeys on crack could do better.

And how many times have you heard that you need to train at full speed and play all out or bad things can happen, yes be it a 'freindly', training session, or match. I am not going to fuss over the tackle, its part of the game, and Tony should know this. He has every right to pop up and get into Sterlings face, but losing control himself is a recipe for disaster in my opinion.

Tony was dead within his rights to have a go at the little prick. Only disappointing thing was he didn't smack him. And then batter Wiltshire. What a sad-sack he is. Giving it the "hold me back' routine when there were about 6 players between them.

I normally don't care how England do. Being Irish it's almost a pre-requisite that I cheer their every defeat but I never really went in for that. however, 2 things are changing my mind- ITV's nonsensical commentary and coverage last night was something I'd expect to come across in Boys own annual from Victorian times. And ther are way too many scouse rats on the team.

I'd have more cutting insight from a paper towel.

Scissoring from mid-air a man's standing leg long after the ball has gone is not 'tackling'. Who are you, Sterling's mother? Tell your boy he has a stupid bloody haircut.

I must have missed the part where nearly snapping someone's legs counted as "trying to make an impression".
Even if the little chode flies in with a tackle that isn't high and cleanly takes the ball, that's hardly going to get him in the starting 11 against Italy. He's fucked it for himself now anyway because he doesn't have the next friendly to make a decent impression on Woy.
