Dell do some good deals for basic home use; www.dell.co.ukIf you want something more advanced then check out www.ebuyer.com and www.overclockers.co.ukYou'll be able to get some good deals with that budget; my manager at work just managed to build up a good spec gaming machine for just over £400, albeit he already had a monitor.

I converted to Apple and overall its very good but very expensive. You should look for deals where the package includes software and other add ons. Dell can be good but Acer just a bit better. Look around possibly by going to PC world just to try out machines. They will let you play around to give you a good idea of what you actually need. Once you have a profile shop around and get the best deal. Not all reconditioned or second hand are good options. Toshiba used to do reconditioned with a six months guarantee but the machines were well used and failed after a year. If you have a limited budget look to spend a few pennies more in a shop that will honour customer protection. The UK guarantees two years - John Lewis is a good option for returns and PC world has a reasonable backroom service.

a budget of 5-700 will get you a pretty serious bit of kit. if it's just for internet then just spend 300 odd quid on a good reconditioned lap top.
[monitor, keyboard, peripherals etc aside] 5-700 quid would build you a multi-core rig that you could use to encode video and game with. if you're not fussed about either of these then you really don't need to spend that sort of money mate

Don't buy one, if all your doing is browsing and online shopping then why do you need a PC. A tablet is more than sufficient for this. If your buying a laptop then spend abit more and get a Mac Book Pro 13in. Best thing you'll buy in the laptop market.

Aye, if it's an actual computer you want just get a Macbook Pro. I have a mid-2012 13in and it's excellent. Got a non-unibody, bought myself a Samsung Solid State drive, switched out the standard HD, and away we go.

anything MAC is not the best thing on the market, except for old hardware at an inflated price
