Thomas 'fucking' Pieters. I knew he was talented from watching him on the European Tour but he's been outstanding since getting paired with Rory the last 3 rounds. Great eagle to put them 2up.

There appears to be a game of golf at a Trump rally.

Been a tight evening but looks like the U.S are going to edge this session. Been some pretty poor putting from Europe. Westwood, Kaymer, Rose have barely made a thing both days. Surprised Chris Wood didn't keep his place, played really well in the foursome this afternoon and made some good putts.
Rory and Pieters are an incredible team, the best of the tournament. Spieth and Reed not far behind though, although Reed is carrying Spieth a little at the moment. Rory, Pieters and Reed have undoubtedly been the standout players of the opening 2 days.

Fucking appalling miss from Westwood on the 18th to halve the match. Couldn't have been more than 2ft away. The 1 point swing in that missed putt could make all the difference tomorrow.
In fairness to him, he shouldn't have been in the team anyway and certainly not playing this afternoon considering how abysmal he was Friday morning. Captain Clarke has to take some of the blame for picking his bezzie mate despite him not being in the best of form.

Well, 3 point deficit it is. If we end up losing this it will have all come down to the putting. Tee-to-green we've been as good, if not better than the U.S on the whole but on the greens we've been lightyears behind besides a couple of players these opening 2 days.
3 points is not unassailable, we were 4 behind at Medinah but I'd have to see the match ups before remaining as confident as I was early on when there looked like being just 1 or 2 points in it.
Get the big performers from this week...Rory, Pieters and to a lesser extent Stenson, Sergio and Cabrera Bello out first to try and get some points on the board early, give confidence to the rest of the European guys and hopefully put the pressure on the U.S.

Jesus that was awful from Westwood. He's been a warrior for Europe over the years but that felt like a back breaker.

If Westwood was even a slightly above average putter he'd have probably won multiple majors. Putting has always been his biggest weakness for me. Superb ball striker.

Some great golf played today, Reed was absolutely insane, brilliant.
Would love to see the US take the cup back, but I am not like many who think it is over, have seen Europe pull it out in the singles to many damn times to be confident. Really expecting to see some great gold tomorrow

Yeah there's going to be some spectacular golf and as you say, far from over. The U.S need to get 5 points on the board, Europe need just 7 1/2 as they retain if it's tied. Some of the singles matches look pretty mouthwatering. Rory v Reed off first should be an absolute cracker! That fast start that Europe need could definitely happen. I fancy them in the opening 4 matches.

I think Clarke was right to put his big hitters up first. We have to get some points on the board quickly and hope for a momentum swing. I'm not sure I see it though. Seems like too many of our players aren't performing and it's a core few who've kept us in it.

Late to this party but why isn't Poulter playing? I know he's a vice captain but why wasn't he a wildcard? He's been responsible for so many huge moments in the past.
Also, again pardon my lateness but is this a particularly inexperienced Europe side? Certainly played like it. Seem to be missing guys like Jimmenez, Harrington. Guys who maybe weren't up to a huge amount during the season but became important in this cup.

Poulter has just been in very poor form for a couple of years now. Westwood hasn't been great but has had a few good finishes throughout the year, including a good finish in The Masters, so there was some justification for him. There'd have been no justification in picking Poulter and he as much accepted that himself.
Same applies to the other 2 you mentioned really. Both been great players but are getting on a bit now and barely threaten the top of the leaderboard. This European team is inexperienced but a lot of the rookies earned their spot outright by finishing high on the points list after winning events. The only rookie that got a wildcard pick was Pieters, who's been one of our best players. The other 2 were Kaymer and Westwood who are experienced winners and have both been disappointing.
