I've got a couple of tabs open, every couple of minutes I go through them and refresh, not a very productive day today.

Vidal is not going to make any announcements today. Its not like he will be told by Allegri that he is excess to the requirements. They will discuss and decide. Cant see any developments before end of week.

Aus, move along, this is a realist-free, muppet-only zone.
Take your brooding to the Summer 2014 thread.

Well put it this way, this could either be the most glorious thread ever, or the most short lived - exciting times I'd say there's about a 25% chance of this happening, with us probably having pulled out of the deal & the papers perhaps just squeezing the last bit of this out because he's returned from holiday and it will be covered by Allegri. It'll likely resemble the Fabregas scenario, sitting next to their manager saying he was never going to leave, so don't get your hopes up. Still, it was a beautiful thought, right up there with Thiago - which ended way more painfully. We have learnt not to hope over the last few years, the pitiful size of the Luke Shaw and Herrera threads bear testament to that.

We have learnt not to hope over the last few years, the pitiful size of the Luke Shaw and Herrera threads bear testament to that. I think it'll be over quickly. We'll know one way or another quite soon I believe. Him 'completing his medical tests' and joining up with training, thats could be a go-card. We knew he had a knee injury and rushed back into to the WC, maybe that was enough to keep us off. I mean it was rumoured we got in contact with the Chile doc's to ask about his condition which sounded a bit devious. I simply think it'll be decided upon whether Woodys comments of last week on signing big players was guff or legitimate. He has an ideal opportunity to slam down an offer for one of the best CM's, which won't be the 60-70m figure he suggested. I couldn't see much motivation for such comments (like ST sales, which were gone), without having the confidence to back them up. After last summer which could be at least partially attributed to the ditherer, Woody is firmly in the sights this time. Juve have been busy and spent some money. I still believe they need a big sale. Now that doesn't guarantee its Vidal or to us, but i really can't see them finishing this summer without a big sale to balance the books. If nothing happens in the next week or so, or vidal doesn't want a move (or goes elsewhere) then our attention will simply switch to Strootman.

Off topic but relevant - thanks Jay for starting this thread as the Summer one has become an all-consuming mega-monster that's swallowed really important stuff like Evra's departure (ffs, the guy deserved to be honoured separately didn't he?!)

I thought about this last night and came up with the following scenario that may explain where we're at.
We probably had two main, ideal midfield targets in addition to Herrera - Strootman and Vidal. Strootman got injured and by the time LVG took over Vidal was the prime candidate.
Then he got injured and actually went to the World Cup, playing through said dodgy knee. The press got word of our primary target (Vidal) which increased the hype and fee, mnaking Juve aware we're seriously considering just about any offer.
As it turns out it becomes less and less sensible to pay 50 million for a 27 year old with a dodgy knee (imagine the embarrassment of breaking your transfer record for a player that's injured and he turns into a disaster), regardless of how serious we think it is, and with our pursuit of Strootman up in the air Roma are aware we'll be in for him too - hence inflated valuation.
We might have been dealt a very unfortunate hand with both of our main targets picking up injuries at a time when we might have wrapped them up sharpish.
On the plus side: This is Vidal's last chance to join one of the elite clubs in the world. Leverkusen to Juventus and now he's turning 28, with all the other major clubs stocked up and having passed up this might be his last chance, whilst his stock is at its' highest, to move to a big club. Winning piles Scudettos may not be the best accolades to some.

Well reasoned jay but if we aren't willing to gamble on Vidal's knee or Stroot's full recovery, then why the fuck are we twiddling our thumbs? It's not like their injuries are recent. Move onto other midfield targets. God, am not sure there is even one
