Marca (pinch of salt) claiming Ronaldo has a loan release clause for Newcastle if they make top 4 Would be fun to see if they qualified for CL and then next season had to play geriatric Ronaldo every game to completely mess up their game plan.

Marca (pinch of salt) claiming Ronaldo has a loan release clause for Newcastle if they make top 4 Suspect there will be a lot of those rumours going around for a bit. I do wonder if Al Nassr is a Zlatan-esque 'reputation rehab' exercise for Ronaldo to go and score a load of goals while earning yachts of money. Meanwhile Mendes uses the load of goals to get a move back to Europe. Zlatan did it with LA Galaxy when people suggested he was finished while playing for us. Back to Italy would probably suit Ronaldo. Whether any of it is realistic is a different question. I suspect while Cristiano Ronaldo has not officially retired there will always be some degree of interest/speculation.

Why though? I thought he had plenty of offers?

They are building a solid team there. It would be hard for Newcastle to turn that down commercially. In terms of their “brand”, having Ronaldo playing for them and what that would bring with it for a club who are aspiring to position themselves at the top of world football - it would be massive. Fans would go wild for it too. When Keegan started there, they had a new stand built at St James. The fans were taking days off work and going down there with deckchairs and lunchboxes to watch it be built. They’re fucking rabid. They’d all be decked out in Ronaldo shirts. Ronaldo in the fucking Bigg Market. It would be crazy. Having said all that, rumour is clearly bullshit. Just a tap-in for journos to make that link now.

Easy League to get back to sharpness, rather than going straight into a competitive division where expectations would be sky high immediately. Not difficult to work out in fairness. As I said, it's only speculation.

Keegan was 31 when he was at Newcastle, still prime I would say, 2 good seasons with plenty of goals.

I think more likely is that no one would want to touch him in Europe. He's a disrupter, and that interview basically finished his career in any clubs that could have taken him on.
Today he again is saying he had many clubs but he gave his word to the Saudi's.... Yeaaaaaaa sure....

I wasn’t comparing Ronaldo to Keegan (although again, they did go mad to have a superstar of the time there). I was using him as a reference point to the era with regards to how excited they were just to get a new stand built. He’s signed up over there to be an ambassador when he’s finished playing. Because having his name associated with their nation and league suits their agenda. It would be no different with a club like Newcastle signing him. To have him associated with you is fucking huge commercially. He’s a laughing stock at the minute for various reasons, but he’s still an absolute megastar. Again, I’ve given this daft rumour more attention than it deserves really. It simply isn’t true.

Brilliant. He’s an excellent keeper. We need to be keeping players like him.
