While this seems fine and would work among a rational populace, there are more than enough people ready to label those who choose not to wear them as X or Y. Nobody will ever convince religious folks to be pro LGBT. That just will not happen. The aim should be to set in place laws that will never allow someone to be discriminated against because of their orientation etc. Someone’s personal beliefs can rarely ever be changed, but the laws can and should be so that nobody can discriminated against in the workplace or any other professional or equal opportunity situation. I guess I’m more interested in why when we live in such an agnostic country and we that concerned about catering to religion. Especially when football really is so far behind when it comes to being a safe space for Gay players etc. So few people have come out and the ones that have paint a pretty bleak picture. I completely understand why he didn’t want to wear it and I respect his right not to wear it but I wish the rest of players could see the bigger picture. Sport in general is quite far behind when it comes to accepting LGBTQ sportspersons. And don’t even get me started on religion - if it weren’t for religion we’d be living in much more civil times. Like I said imo it should be a matter of choice - those who want to wear it should do so while those who don’t shouldn’t be forced to.

Why does the LGBT community need representing with jackets and arm bands ? Because they face discrimination and it's a good thing for very influential athletes to show support so we can make the culture as a whole more accepting and inclusive.

What about anyone and everyone who's discriminated against? Dave, who's hated 'The gays' since forever ain't gonna change his mind, 99% people are just normal and live and let live.

People actually do change their minds. Norms evolve and change. Regarding others who are discriminated against, I think they still kneel before every game as a showing of solidarity against racism.

Everything suggests it was the clubs decision, not the players.
