Aussie cricketer Phil Hughes has died after being hit on the head by a ball. Shocking news.
Not sure how much most people would know about Hughes back home, but he was only 25. Birthday on Sunday actually. Hit on the head by a bouncer and they've turned the life support off today.
Apparently his family were in the crowd watching the game too.
RIP young man, horrible day for the sport.

Sad news to wake up to. Thoughts go out to his family. The maker of the helmet which he was wearing was on sky news saying its very difficult to get any protection around the area where he was struck as it would restrict movement. Tragic accident. Got to feel for the bowler as well, he must be devastated.

Terribly sad day for cricket. A precious young life lost.
Rest in Peace Phil! Feel for Sean Abbott too.

According to doctors Phill's death was a freakish accident. Yahoo. So much sadness. The guy is my age, which is chilling.
Thoughts have to be with the bowler, how the hell is he supposed to go on playing cricket and living his life the same way now? He is going to need so much support and personal strength to recover.
Worried about an over-reaction from the authorities too, that we'll see the Bouncer delivery banned or helmets turned into spacesuit-looking things so no part of the head or neck is exposed ever or something equally daft.
RIP Phil Hughes.

Devastating news this. The pure freakish nature of this accident makes it even more heartbreaking. The ball hit him on his head and burst an artery, causing a hemorrhage. Unbelievably sad incident. Poor lad Abbott. He was mates with Hughesy too. What he must be going through one cannot fathom. Very sad and dark day for the sport.
RIP Hughesy.

There have been cases of life threatening injuries when struck by a bouncer, but not a death until this tragedy happened. A guy called Raman Lamba died in a similar manner, while fielding at a close position (short fine leg). The batsman hit the ball straight into the temple.
And who would have thought that people can die while playing the Gentleman's game

Actually really like this. Not David Warner (@notdavidwarner): Vale Phillip Hughes. Resumes play on 63 not out with a new batting partner.

What a tragic loss. He was a top bloke by all accounts. RIP
Spare a thought for Abbott aswell. Forget cricket, will take a while to be even the same person again.
I'm with bestie. Hopefully a freakish accident doesn't outlaw bouncers altogether or wear some absurd suit. But now is not the time for debate. My thoughts and condolences with his family.

RIP Phil Hughes. Being that it happened in south Australia they will put traffic lights on the pitch and lower the speed limits. Too early?
