I remember the day when Mike Brearley wore a tiny little plastic thing to cover his temples and most people called him an over-reacting twat
TBH I'm amazed it took this long for a death like this in first class cricket - helmets are more lightweight than they were are few years ago and bowlers are a hell of a lot faster because their technique is analyzed at the top level to make them more efficient
RIP Phil - would have been a top player IMO

RIP Phil. Truly sad news and gutted. He was cracking when the aussies toured India. Was really hoping that he'd be back but really sad.
Thoughts to Abbot to , the poor chap is gonna be devastated. He is gonna need a lot of support and help to get thru this.
My condolences to Hughes' family.

Had such a promising career still ahead of him. Unorthodox batter at the beginning of his career and struggled to keep a place in the test side but he worked on his game and was starting to become a quality player and had a really bright future especially T20 and ODI . Watched him play a few times for Hampshire and he was always fun to watch, also saw him back in 2009 in the walkabout in Cardiff. He was out with the team after the first test and enjoying a few drinks with me and the rest of the barmy army, never got the chance to chat to him but according to a lot of the lads I know he was a quality, down to earth and quiet little lad. RIP and my thoughts with Abbott hopefully this won't define his career.

Crazy you would never expect things like thus to happen in cricket of all sports. Terrible tragedy and thought are with those involved. Thoughts are also with the bowler. He must be a wreck. R.I.P

There were many head injuries with cricket balls when I was at school. Dad, who had played for Lancashire taught me early on to duck. I had thought in the modern game these injuries were gone. Dreadful story and the poor bowler.....all very sad.
