Mike Keegan @mikekeegan_DM Led to believe the reports claiming United have agreed a fee for Roberto Firmino are well wide of the mark. #mufc ahh... the anti-transfer rumour. the other side of the coin. as bestie suggests, it's as much nonsense as what's in the metro, only there's no creativity to poo-pooing the rumours.

What does it say about me that a genuinely exciting attacking midfielder doesn't actually excite me all that much because I'm holding onto hope for a Vidal, a Schiederlin, or a Gundogan first?

I think I know what you mean. I want the 'foundation' pieces put in place first. Get me Otamendi and Schneiderlin and then all the muppet stuff can take off!

It means that it's brilliant that we're finally being linked with proper Midfielders (Herrera aside, obviously )

Quality player, always welcome but would prefer spending on a solid spine? Schneiderlin, Laporte for me. And and to that Lacazette Benzema that's one hell of a French Revolution. Not to mention pogba. But at least 3 of the first 4 are realistic.

its a bit worrying though that Depay apart, we havent signed anyone. Especially when VG wanted everything done early, so he could go on tour with everything settled. Is it 7th July when they fly out?

The internationals (bar the Copa) are over soon. Stuff really should speed up then. And apart from the Scousers bargain bin shopping, no one has really bought anyone yet, so it's not as if Utd are being left behind.

I only look at all the speculations but take a lot of the speculations by the tabloid press as just attention seeking to sell their papers. Some sports journalists might get a few right but not many. I always check the Official United site, like just now, but all is quiet atm. The main headlines are about Depay and The Legends Are Back match coming up on Sunday which we all know about. I don't think the likes of LVG & Woody are just enjoying their summer break but are communicating with each other 'behind closed doors'. Thing's will hotten up soon on the Official site. www.manutd.com/en.aspx

I'm biased but I like Firmino, a lot. I was at Beira-Rio for the friendly Brazil vs Honduras (I've got free tickets) and whilst the match was boring, Firmino was certainly good enough. He's versatile, he can play as a striker and as an attacking midfielder. Also, he will be sold for peanuts, around £13mil. The gossip is that he is doing medical exams for United while at Copa América, though I'm very skeptical about this. He will likely start today vs Peru.
