Clean, and closed, fracture is the optimum in this scenario. Other things involving dislocations/compound fractures/ligaments damage generally all make things a lot worse.

Have I imagined it, or is a clean break like his more likely to heal better? As far as I was aware, the more damaging injury would be if joints are involved as well. Everything I've read has basically said whilst being horric in terms of pain and needing surgery, it's a clean break and he should be back 100%

All the forums giving him the man of the match and all the wide support from the fan base must be encouraging for the lad. The first six weeks and the return period are the worse so I wish him well particularly now!

Jesus. Can't imagine that's a good sign. Although I have no idea if that's the case so don't want to worry anyone I thought that. Don't know if it is really a bad sign or just seems like one. Ok so good (relative) news- Shaw suffered a clean break and the 2nd op was always planned. It's to do with sealing up the wound more so than any complications.

If it's not I was thinking along the lines of stuff like swelling needs to go down before they can totally finish the op, that kind of thing. I know it's not the same, but my kid broke his nose and had to wait a few days before he could have it re-set because of the swelling.

Coming home today according to his Instagram account. Ok. So far so good then. Doesn't sound like there were any complications. It's a long and lonely road for him here though. But Jones has returned to training so he'll soon have some company in the treatment room!

unitedramble.com/picture-united-defender-luke-shaws-leg-after-second-operation/?It is almost a week since Luke Shaw suffered an awful double right leg fracture when Manchester United faced PSV Eindhoven away in the UEFA Champions League. The 20-year-old was immediately rushed to St Annes hospital over in Eindhoven last Tuesday evening from the stadium, where he had his first operation to straighten and pin the bones back together. Shaw then stayed in the Eindhoven hospital and was thought to be having his second operation over there to close wounds, but this was not an option coming to the end of last week, and Manchester United had then planned to fly Luke Shaw and his Mum, Dad, and Brother back to Manchester where they could send him to a local hospital this end, a plan that was put into action on Saturday morning when the flight took place. Manchester United’s security then transferred Shaw to a nearby hospital, sneaking him through the back doors. On Saturday afternoon, Shaw underwent his second operation, a operation that was deemed successful and both the hospital and Shaw are hopeful that he can be discharged on Tuesday morning. The picture below surfaced via social media on Sunday, of Luke Shaw’s leg after the second op. It is going to take a lot of time for Luke Shaw to get back for Manchester United, a recovery that we will be keeping a close eye on. Many of the Manchester United players dedicated Sunday’s 3-2 win over Southampton to Luke Shaw, a nice touch. ------------------------------------ The picture in the spoiler below, if true, makes me hate Moreno much more than before.

27/09/2015 09:34, Report by Mark Froggatt SHAW POSTS POSITIVE UPDATE ON INSTAGRAM Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has provided an update on his rehabilitation from a broken leg by posting a positive photo on his personal Instagram account. The 19-year-old England international suffered a double fracture of the right leg during this month’s UEFA Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven, which required two emergency operations that have now ruled him out of action for the majority of this season. That is particularly disappointing news when you consider Shaw’s excellent start to the campaign, although he remains upbeat and uploaded an encouraging photo to Instagram this weekend, with the message: “Long road ahead but so happy to be able to put weight on my leg again!” Van Gaal revealed during Friday’s press conference at the Aon Training Complex that he’d visited Luke Shaw to check up on him and the boss was happy to report the defender’s spirits are high, which is a major positive with many months of rehabilitation ahead. “Shaw will be out for at least six months and that’s dependable on the development of rehab,” said van Gaal. “You have to cope with all the things that happen in rehab. It is six months, but usually more because you have to be fit. It shall be very difficult and he knows he has a long way to go. “The most important thing is that he is mentally very strong, but that is now, and although it is fantastic to see, he has to show that consistency in his rehabilitation period which is not easy. He is also 19 years old, it is not easy, but when I saw him yesterday he was very strong, fantastic to see.” Ashley Young has also spoken about Shaw’s mental state and the support network that is waiting to help him upon his return to the Aon Training Complex. “Even the day after it happened he was positive and upbeat which I think for a lot of the players and staff was surprising after such a horrific injury, and when he returns to the training ground everyone will be there for him,” Ash told MUTV. www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Sep/Luke-Shaw-positive-update-on-Instagram.aspx

Doctors must have shaved his chest for procedure or something You do know lots of footballers wax right? It was a joke. No hair grew back while he was in hospital. He probably did it the second he got back. That's funny to me. Glad to see him up and about.
